Sorry about that, I didn't mean to imply that you were the one to make the mistake of not getting the Exec package when ordering new. Low miles and warranty are both very important to me as well.

Any common things breaking on these cars or things to look for? How do the LED headlights compare to the HID ones?

Honestly, for me, I went with the LED option because the halo has a more refined look to it and sets itself apart from other BMW's. I then had my car coded to take advantage of the adaptive part of the headlights. US spec M5's don't come with this feature from the factory. The halo on the non LED headlights are circular and look like any other BMW on the road.

How about illumination, turning with corners, and what is the adaptive part? Nice halos are fine, but not a deal breaker.

I think the xenons are brighter than LED because the color is a little further towards yellow on the lighting scale. Here is a link showing what the adaptive part is. You would need to have your car coded for your headlights to do this.

It worked exactly like that for me. My high beams were automatically on and I was never flashed by an oncoming car.

How hard and expensive is it to retrofit the lights if they aren't included? Same for the parts and programming of competition package. I don't care about the competition exhaust or wheels. Probably doing aftermarket anyway. And its not available on 2013. But i am interested in the steering reprogrammed, suspension parts, etc.

I'm not sure on pricing, but the lights alone sell for upwards of $1k each on eBay, and that is without the ballasts. You're much better off finding a car with the lighting package. I couldn't tell you on the steps needed for the competition package. You could get a 2013 and get an ECU tune. Then upgrade the sway bars and springs. It really depends on what your power goals are with the car. Are you wanting to go the JB4 route? If so, the non competition seems to run into fueling trim issues when approaching 22psi, while the competition package can handle 22psi. An ECU tune is the way to go if warranty isn't an issue. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Nah. Sounds like a comp and lighting option on the car is the way to go. Executive too.

I'd get the comp for the simple fact that it holds value when selling the car. Get the competition package. You'll be glad you did.

Read it again....slower this time. Holds value. We can debate this if you'd like. How does it NOT hold value on the resale market versus a non competition package model?

Figure comp for the suspension upgrades and faster steering. I'm buying used so price wise I'm paying a premium which will probably offset the residual loss of value. And I need to compare the cost of the suspension upgrades vs the comp pakg premuim to see if it makes sense. I'm guessing the steering part is programming that can be done after the fact as its fly by wire. Is that possible? I don't care about the exhaust as I'm doing an aftermarket setup but if it has resale value that also may nbe helpful. That said I'll probably keep it anyway to swap back and sell off the aftermarket one when I sell anyway. Wheels and tires the same. Performance is worthless as I'm going to tune anyway unless there's some reason a competition package can tune better like different cam or something I'm not aware of. Thx

Probably not, as you don't benefit from the breakup. Selling a car on the other hand you'll at least get something for it. Moral of the story, don't be the guy that buys boobs for a girlfriend.

i wanna talk Led's vs zenoner's for a moment !!

had a 13 for 3 years and just gotta 16 few mo's ago !

my vision is great and i love the led's < look , ring's , color , sharpness , when they turn on etxxx but.... i gotta say the zenon's where a HELL ofa lot brighter more wide spread and went like 2xs farther down the road ! i constantly feel like im looking way past these led's in the dark now.. As an aggressive driver all the time, im always on the defense and wanna know what im speeding twds and im not gonna lie imho i think i want my zenon's back.. i dint realize just till last nite when i was in my daily (jeeep srt) and switched cars and went out in my M and it's really a nite/day diff..

w that being said if i built a car rt now i'd prolly go led's cause the keeping up w the kardashian factor but if i were buying used and the car din't have em i can def say i would'nt be opposed to that car!

my 0.02 cent's

Also for me must have's are , if you love music def B&O ,
drive assist (for the parking aids alone, top view cameras are sick had em in my x5m many moons agoo and now cant live w out) ,
comp pkg (puts power dwn alot better)(nicer wheel's imo)(lower)(more connected drivefeel)
Exec pkg
CCB brakes well preowned prolly like you said unsprung weight is big and 2 brake dust(if your anal u'll understand) brand new ehh ehhh 9k faaack that!! just got a set of ceramic pads to do a swap for $500 shipped and i'll eliminate the dust !

Neil

Ok so no led is not a deal breaker. Driver assist does nothing for me. Im not ever in the city. I like the comp package programming for shifting, rear diff, and steering, and that i dont have to lower or add suspension components. Executive comes with comfort access and other stuff i want so thats a done deal, b&o probably also. Lights i just want ultimate output so HID is fine. Also concerned the ceramic brakes may be super expensive to replace repeatedly as needed. If it has them fine but nit a must have. So my list is now
Must haves
Executive package
Competition package

Wants
B&O
Extended leather
Ceramic brakes

Don't care either way
Adaptive lighting
Driver assist

Had F10 m5 before and my friend had cls 63 4 matic.
Those two cars feel totally different. Once you drive both, I believe you could tell the difference. Currently, I am driving F80 m3 as my DD, the past f10 just feels bigger heavier and more luxury than my f80, but both cars give you excitements once you start the car. The amg does give you a better noise than standard f10 exhaust, but my car had MPE, personally, it's a better sound than AMG.
For driving aspect, like some folks said E63/CLS63 just like a old grandpa's rocketship. It builds speed really fast even you would never notice it, but except the exhaust and speed, you would notice nothing else. It's more calmed, but M5 would make you more excited.
