LCI Competition Package or Carbon Ceramic Brakes

If you had to choose between the Comp Package or Carbon Ceramic Brakes, which one would you go with?

I recently test drove a 2014 LCI with both, and I have to say, it's a substantial difference from my 2013 (November 2012 production) in handling. It feels much better, and the car feels a lot more planted. I'm wondering if that's because of the CCB or Comp?

Carbon brakes. I know a few M6 owners with carbon brakes but on the M5 that option is super rare.

I'd go with the CF brakes. Not for performance, but for reduced brake dust.

I don't know if you'd notice the 15hp, my car has so much power already that it experiences traction control interference through 3rd gear, then I'm already going way beyond the national maximum speed limit....and I know I wouldn't want the firmer ride of the CP and no need for louder exhaust.

I say CP... you already said you like the ride and handling better.

Is brake dust your key concern? Do you slam on the brakes often? If you are considering tracking, are you willing to shell out serious cash to replace the CCB (they will wear out faster than steel on the track). Have your ever felt you brakes lacking in your current M5?

I really wish more people would spend some serious wheel time with the CP before poopooing it. I think the significant increases in bushings, steering, dampers, and the active M differential adjustments outweigh the benefits of CCB, and the CP makes the M5 be what it was meant to be.

*As usual, I caveat with the fact that I have it on mine, so I will be subjective in supporting it*

Some may agree with benefits of the CP.
Aren't brake pads included for 4 years/50,000 mile service?

Well they used to be specifically excluded from the BMW Ultimate Service Program: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/f10...ml#post2319652

However that language does not appear in the current configurator. I would definitely call to get clarification. However, if you are not tracking a car, they will last a much longer time than the steel, and probably wont warrant a change for at least 100K miles.

I heard it's because of MY14.

Isn't BMW calibrate the steering on all 2014 F10 including M5?

Brake dust is the bane of my existence. I haven't felt like my brakes aren't good enough though, they grip hard and stop QUICK. My main reason for getting the CCB was that it roughly shaves off 40 lbs (or so I've heard) of unsprung weight. Which I have been told makes a HUGE difference in the way the car handles. This is why I wonder if it was the CP, or the CCB that was really making the difference.

That's what I heard too, so I'm wondering if the steering and suspension changes in the CP are really making that much of a difference. I unfortunately have nothing to compare it to though.

What's your tyre pressure? If yours is the 20 inch wheels, try the maximum 280 for a day or two, then the minimum 240. There is a significant difference in how planted the M5 feels.
