Is there a listing of the VINs affected? For those M5 cars that are already built but are waiting delivery (beginning of October 2012), will that mean that they may have to go back for any prospective engine correction?

The 1M will be my last BMW. There is just to much going on with their new cars.

I love M cars but I think next up for me is a Porsche. I hope BMW can prove me wrong.

They said oil pump not HPFP... I have seen more MB loaner cars about than any other... it just all depends... I put 65 km on a 335is and drove it hard not one problem other than a couple injectors gunking up

My m3 had problems... like eating tires and squealing brakes and drinking a lot of fuel jajajaja

Porsches have problems too... Do you know anyone who has put significant mileage/kmileage on one? they will eventually vibrate and have bearing and shaft problems and when out of warranty will shit a brick - come on LiLo drives them

Ya fail but its a baby beast and the demons need to be shaken out

Could it be that BMW tried to skimp a little so they could have better earnings and decided to use oil pump "Made in China"?

Further in my call from BMW she stated that BMW recommended that I not drive the car until the repairs could be made and that it would be 2 to 3 weeks until the parts were available.

Wow. I took delivery day before yesterday and now they're telling me not to drive it for the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Now I'm glad I did ED and my M5 is going to be on a boat for the next 4 weeks anyways. ED FTW!

This kind of makes the lack of adjustable side bolsters on the seats seem insignificant...

sounds to me like a bad batch of oil pumps from their supplier. Rest assured, BMW will do everything in their power to get these cars back on the road ASAP

Glad to see BMW is doing something about the issue. Moreover, I am also glad to I'm waiting for another year before buying one. No matter what, there are always issues with first MY production cars.

This is not the first time Ive heard of this. I stopped by my friends dealer the other day and they were replacing an N63 motor out of a 550...same thing happened, oil pump chain snapped and oil pressure went bye bye...locked the motor up.

I would call BMW NA and multiple dealers just to make sure. Get a document stating its not affected in case your motor locks up.

Basically cover your bases.
