Probably worth mentioning that if this car was repaired with some degree of competence, that would mean that just about everything from the flywheel back has been replaced. Barring any engine issues, it's probably a solid car. Engine never gave me any trouble, never even had to add oil. But it was beat to absolute hell in its early life so I dunno.

At $45k, I'd re-buy it if I could get an excellent aftermarket warranty.

Is there an aftermarket diff that is more durable than OEM? It seems like OEM diff is very fragile.

To clarify, it wasn't the diff that failed. It was the mounts for the diff.

But yeah allmotor has had this happen before and has all kinds of good ideas haha

I’m a bit surprised that 100k car has some of the parts made out of mushed peas.

I almost bought that car and had a great conversation with the owner. I ended up finding a Comp package 2014 with B&O system for just a little more but this would be a great deal...

On a side-note, this again raises the question of how to read out the number of launches when looking at a prospective car. Not visible in Ista+, inpa or tool32 (so far). It must be there, surely the dealer can read it out if they really want to (to deny warranty claim).

Tech told me that he had to upload to BMW to get that number. Which on this car was over 100 launches (I used it twice in the 6 months I had it). They found that out early, long before this issue happened.

I tried putting together a quick survey to gather some info about this issue. I had not previously been aware that these breaks were happening outside of power adding mods, standing start racing, big usage of launch control.

If people want to review it and offer feedback, and if you think its worthwhile, I can post it in its own thread for better exposure.

Welp looks like someone is buying it finally. Fingers crossed; I sincerely hope the new owner has no trouble with it.
