but that's what also drives me nuts about the iphone...ignoring that 99.999% of the apps you have to pay for. There's incentive to NOT update your iphone. That's just stupid.

Android you can keep on updating and updating, and have no problems if you're rooted, etc. So glad android is finally catching up/is caught up
Thanks for the awesome info, exactly what I needed to know. I'm sticking with my Droid. Maybe get a droid x

But when am I doing this surfing? I mean I'm generally in class or at home studying. I have a laptop with me all the time in both locations.

I mean maybe its just me but this whole being connect idea is nice and all but I dont want/need to be surfing the internet every time I sit in the backseat of somebodies car or am walking down the hall.

To each their own though.

can't wait. I've played with friends droids and iPhones and i much prefer the iPhone. droid seems a little goofy in the way some things are done.

not sure what "rooting" you droid means but sounds like a way of stabilizing the phone. if it were so great then that shouldn't be necessary.

now if I could tether my future iphone to give my wifi only iPad internet on the road then that would be cool. if not not that big a deal since they are pretty much the same things.

Does anyone know the phone plans yet? Also, does Verizon users need to pay for a data plan like AT&T?

Not sure yet but I doubt if data plan is going to be structured any differently. AT&T paid a heavy price for underestimating that initially. Verizon will follow the same model perhaps.

We shall see ...

Most people who use the "fragmentation" argument don't understand what that means or what effect it has on their particular handset. It's mostly just a "parroted" term.

Rooting refers to gaining access to root user commands. I guess if I had to explain it to a habitual iPhone user, it would be somewhat akin to jailbreaking. It's possible to make the device more stable theoretically in some cases, but a lot of the stuff that can follow rooting (OC/UV, changing permissions, etc...) can also make it less stable, although most Android handset capabilities have the opportunity to be enhanced ridiculously if you know what you're doing. The thing is, rooting in itself won't do anything bad to your phone, but it would allow you to do bad shit to it if you chose to do so.

Makes sense?

Too bad ... Not into having a cool gadget just for the sake of having one. I think I am going to wait until it's offered for Verizon's 4G LTE network - which means mid to latter part of this year by the most hopeful estimates at this point.

i read online somewhere this morning that although the new iphone will come out around july which is when it comes out every year through ATT, b/c of some agreement, Verizon won't be able to offer the new iphone (4g?/5?) until 6 months after? If that's the case I don't know what to do next month when my contract with ATT is over. I'm tempted to jump on the android boat but I was hestitant to hold off till summer when I thought the new iphone 4g/5 would be available.

How about going with a temporary pay as you go service like Virgin Mobile or Straight Talk to fill that gap? Too much hassle?

yeah that seems like a hassle. If it's true that Verizon won't get the newest iphone until beg of next year, I'll most likely switch over to one of those droid phones or something similar. I dunno what's out there for Verizon but my friend has a droid and it's friggin ginormous. I like the size of the iphone but don't want to get the iphone 4 for verizon when a new one is coming out

I'll be switching to Verizon along with my family to stay on the family plan, but I don't know if I'll get an iPhone. I'll have to mess around with a few different Driod phones and see how I like them first. One big reason I would keep an iPhone is because of all the apps and stuff I've bought for my current one that I could transfer to the new one.
