Extended Leather or Competition Pack...
Hi guys.
So very close to agreeing a deal on a new M5. Problem is the budget only really allows me to get either comp pack or extended leather. Which one would you recommend I go for? I really wanted the leather dash as feels so much more luxurious. However I'm thinking comp pack will stop me modding the car as it will come with more power, lower ride height, and better sounding exhaust. I'm looking at a Singapore grey car with Shakir orange car..... Thanks M |

I think you're kidding yourself I would get the full leather then later do some mods when you are able, if you still want. You can always lower, get a new exhaust and a piggy-back unit for more power.

I agree. I have black STD leather and the comp pkg on a leased car. If you do decide in the future to spend a little more for mods I'd get the comp pkg and then DINAN tune best bang for the buck and will come with some security of a warranty. The comp pkg will definitely allow you to enjoy the vehicle considerably more. Slightly more power, lower suspension, slightly better exhaust note (I have also added exhaustmeister) and I believe a revised limited slip differential (or at least revised programming of the LSD) which we certainly need with this RWD beast.

I'm buying the car. Plan to keep for 4-5 years
Looking at Shakir orange interior. Every review I read from journalist suggest that the comp pack is wasted unless you plan to track the car on a regular basis? |

The comp pkg may be a waste of money if one replaced all of the components with better aftermarket parts which certainly exist; at a price of course. I'm no where near a professional racer or track guy but have driven allot of performance cars over the years and live in FL with good all year round weather and flat roads so I'm happy with the comp pkg. I drove the non comp car and it felt a little soft to me (just my opinion). |

I love my601s. Just don't hit any potholes... They bend easily.

OP - there are several good threads on Competition Package As DD, Competition Package vs. Non, and Full Leather vs. Extended on this board worth checking out.
With that said, have you had the opportunity to test drive a Comp vs. Non Comp back to back and/or compare Full Leather vs. Extended in-person? It really depends on your own needs and taste. For me, the difference between Competition Package vs. Non was negligible as a DD. The difference between Full Leather and Extended was material enough that I went w/ Full. Interior on a luxury sedan at this price point deserves Full Leather IMHO. I believe you can still order the 601's on Non Comp - check w/ your CA. Good luck w/ your decision and let us know final outcome :-) Cheers

I'm not a fan of leather in cars, so stuck with extended Sakhir over full; full Sakhir is also a lot of red in the car. After seeing pictures of full leather on this forum, I did think I should have gone with full individual, something like Amaro with black leather seat backs & contrast stitching. If buying to a budget, then std extended individual may be something to consider. It provides more colour in the interior than std extended, if not leather everywhere, at 1/3 of the price of full leather. It may feel more special inside than std extended as the colour is more unique. Depends on what you are trying to achieve in the interior. I have CP but didn't stop me adding the MPE after a few months. I have never been into modifying cars, so this forum is a bad influence. My opinion on CP after 15 months: - 1. the suspension changes result in flatter cornering 2. the steering feeling is improved compared to pre-LCI M5, however, the same may be true of non-CP LCI M5 3. the exhaust is an improvement, but still left me wanting more 4. unless you're tracking the car/driving on autobahns, extra power will go unnoticed in normal UK driving. The MPE made a more noticeable difference to the feel of the car at lower speed than the CP power/torque increase If you're into modifying your cars, I cannot understand how adding CP from new will alleviate your desire to mod at a later date. Surely you'll just have a different starting point than with a non-CP M5? Last edited by Dionysus; 11-28-2014 at 06:58 PM.. |

Go comp... Steering and differential make a huge difference. If you test drive a comp M5 the only difference you will feel is the steering and louder exhaust. I drive my friends F10 without comp pack and it just doesn't do it for me

Every review I've read (and watched via YouTube) states the Competition Package is how the M5 should've been out of the factory from the get go. So whether you track your car or not, I think that is a powerful assessment. All point out the better road feel due to the sharper steering. If you plan is to only keep the car for five years, and if that's truly the case, I'm sure you would spend more than $3,500 in mods (price for full leather), so why not do both then as suggested by earlier post.
Full leather, to me looks fantastic, and with Sakir Orange, the black leather dash would really pop (plenty of pics online here). |

Thanks guys. Off to another dealer today. Have decided that leather dashboard is a must as I know I will just regret it if I don't.
Exhaust and sleeve kit can be added without issue later on. |
