Mods in Cali

How do you guys mod your car without getting in trouble? I have been looking at doing exhaust but its not entirely clear what is good and what isn't.

Loud=good.

Quiet=isn't.

Loud = teenage nuscance VTEC
Akra = FTW = just the right amount of growl and M5 civility...without sounding like your dying for attention and wear ur baseball cap sideways. Plus I had 2 Pasadena cops gimee thumbs up the other day. Sup class

Smog is not an issue until you remove cats which are in the downpipes.

Thanks for the note. so it seems the rules apply if the exhaust system modifies the cats.
