Pain to clean the Rims

Hey Folks:
Just washed my M for the first time by hand (weather not too bad) and cleaning the rims was a real pain. Does anyone use a spray that does this 1-2-3. Worried about the brakes and things when using that stuff. Thanks for the help. Mike

I had the same problem. I got some Sonax Wheel Cleaner based on recommendations by others here and it works pretty well. The key is to not let it dry on the wheels otherwise it leaves a film.

The 343's seem like they'd be super easy to clean...?

What am I missing?

They're not too bad. For me its all about efficiency. I opticoated the car so washing and drying goes quick. The wheels were the bottleneck in the operation. When I use the sonax product on the wheels I can do a good exterior wash in 15-20 minutes.

Try cleaning the X5 wheels then complain.

M5 are very easy to clean. They are just wide so you really need to get in there.

do not use rim shines because the m5 creates a lot of brake dust and therefore the rim shines cause the brake dust to stick more to the rim!

This plus after the initial cleaning, the car needs to be moved to expose the portion underneath the brakes.

I always felt the 343M 's were really easy to clean compared to the E60 M5 wheels.

Another Sonax user - I've got a huge jug of it and refill as needed. Ditto...343's are a piece of cake after these...

@Mscarpa

- Electric Pressure Washer
- Sonax Wheel Cleaner
- MasterBlaster Car Dryer

Wet the wheels with pressure washer. Spray Sonax generously on the wheel, and allow it to turn from green to red (2-3 minutes). Spray it down with pressure washer. Use master blaster to easily and completely dry the wheels off.

You can also purchase one of those wheel cleaned tools.. I forget the name of the one I use. It's red and black, and detailersdomain sells it. Buy the Sonax by the gallon and buy a kwazzy* 360 spray bottle.. again DD sells that.

Those are the tools I use, makes it very easy. I wash my car every week to every other week.. always by myself.

@avlnch

Is this the dryer you recommend?

I would also recommend using a CR Spotless DI water filter as well.

I had the wheels Opticoated as well. Or you can use wheel wax.

I used the sonax wheel cleaner and left it for a few minutes, but later i realized it had marked the brake rotors, like you could see the liquid marks on them and the brakes were making noise for a while. The marks where there even after a few days of using the car, now they are finally gone though. The wheel cleaner chemically reacts with the iron to turn red from green...so then it must be reacting with the rotor metal right?

You should check out JDM chemicals. They have a video on Instagram showing their wheel cleaner. They cleaned the inner barrel of an AMG wheel effortlessly! It was ridiculous...

I use Sonax as well. It's safe on powdercoated wheels too.
