Caked in Brake dust

Can anyone recommend a way to get the caked in stuff off? I'm not opposed to sitting for hours scrubbing, but I definitely don't want to damage the finish by using like sand paper or something lol

Try Sonax Full Effect and scrub using wheel brush.

Unfortunately, I don't believe AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts carry this item. I ordered a jug of this product from detailerdomain. Great stuff!

get some good wheel cleaner - like Sonax Full Effect, make sure you get some good wheel brushes, since the brake dust appears to be caked on you may need to repeat.

Off topic but curious about the green valve stem caps. Were they OEM install?

Lots of BMW dealerships are doing this now and it means the tires are filled with pure nitrogen instead of regular air. It is believed by some nitrogen leaks slower out of the side of the tire than regular air does, and that the oxygen component actually breaks down the rubber faster. This may be good for a classic car on old original tires that just sits. However for new cars that are used more like daily drivers it's basically useless. Besides normal air is something like 78% nitrogen anyways-the cost associated to fill with nitrogen is not commensurate with any perceived or actual benefit. I made BMW take the green caps off my three series and didn't even put nitrogen in my M5 just because I didn't like the color of the caps

If I had to do it over I think that I would go with Ceramic brakes just to avoid this shit from happening.

I'm sure for $9000 a local detailer will keep those wheels nice and clean for you, year round.

Yeah it worked 1 round no brush got like 50% of it off 90% with second scrub and soft billow pad, and its like 97/98 on the third one... The sonax stuff definitely cleaned it up well!

I dont really get the logic by BMW. My first car was 328i. I had it for 1.5months. I literally never clean the wheels and the car, and that car made no noise at all. However, the brakes from M5 is bugging so much ,even if I clean the wheels thoroughly.

Well no doubt, those CB cost another 10gs. I'm too poor to buy them.

Sorry to dig up an old post but is this even true? When I was in the Navy, we used nitrogen in the tires to prevent inflation issues due to the air temp at ground level opposed to low temperature while flying. I would guess that nitrogen in car tires helps keep the same temperature after the tires have warmed up from use and also helps losing pressure when you have cold mornings. So in general, there is benefit and it's not "useless" in cars.
