Aquamist & AWRON Installation

All,

The next phase of the build began yesterday. As the title states, we are installing a custom Aquamist system, assembled by Raz of RK Autowerks (complete with bespoke AN jet and pump adapter fittings, RK charge pipes, steel braided nylon lines; there shall not be component failure and subsequent conflagration ) and the AWRON digital gauge cluster. The Aquamist gauge will be installed in the mini-glove compartment to the left of the driver's knee.

We will also load a more aggressive BPM Stage-II tune to take full advantage of the methanol injection system. As for the injection fluid, to further reduce the already diminished chance of catastrophic failure, I will use Boost Juice. While I have read that the coloring leaves a residue that could potentially spoil injectors, no such evidence to date has been presented; and worst case scenario, upon injector failure, I would simply purchase new ones. The trade off between component failure (here, injectors) and a vehicle fire is an easy one to make. Once the job is done, I will post additional images.

Other planned modifications include map sensors, axles and a reinforced drive line. Should be well north of 800 whp in the very near future, without a "stacked" setup; I've never liked the piggy back tuning modules - another subject for another day as I do not wish to incite fanboys (or fan girls for that matter). Stay tuned!

Cool man. Also, you can/should run pure distilled water in your injection setup from time to time to help the injectors clean. The distilled water will even give you a power bump too.

I hope you built up the transmission. The DCT doesn't like so much torque. My upgraded cooling system for my DCT has worked wonders for keeping the DCT temps under control.

Good luck and post more pix when you can.

very nice, my car is in the process of getting a bms meth kit running with a dme tuning tune and jb4/bcm. Can you quote me pricing on the cf charge pipes please.

Looks very clean, but also very bold to run lines right above the hottest part of the engine.... These are steel-braided lines but have you verified the temp range?

Boiling point of methanol at 760mm HG is 148.3F.

800whp+ is an interesting target without independent boost control.

I agree would be great to see a dyno on <93 octane/no race fuel +this meth setup

You are absolutely correct, the installation is not yet complete. The lines will T together on top of the charge pipes, and clearly not down to the turbos. As for the whp target, we shall see, but there are several guys who have come close already running similar setups. We have a few tricks that shall remain undisclosed for now...

We will dyno post the installation of the custom Stage-II tune; and indeed, I will post the results.

PM Raz at Rk Autowerks. Great guy, exceptionally knowledgeable. He is an actual Engineer, which is a rarity in the aftermarket.

I have yet to enhance transmission cooling. Currently, we have only upgraded the clutches and baskets with SSP Spec-R hardware. I've already pushed it quite hard at Sonoma and thus far no issues; and when I say hard, I enjoyed a brief stint as a Formula 3 and later, GP2 reserve driver; so, proper laps. And thanks!

Very nice! I have those RK CF charge pipes too, but may not end up using them as I've been thinking of plumbing the water/meth bung after the ICs instead of on the charge pipes. The Aquamist I may pick up from Raza also, but been waiting on the BMS stealth tank....

Yeah, I have a tough time supporting vendors who basically hold consumers hostage (e.g. not supporting a product without purchasing another), hence as cool as the stealth tank may be, I won't be purchasing one. It's not like I use the trunk anyway, the car is purely a novelty occasionally driven on the weekend. And thank you!

Thanks! One of several in progress. My wife nearly waterboarded me when I informed her of my 3.9 liter engine build on the GT3. I attempted to convey that the several projects in play are part of an elaborate design of experiments. Suffice it to say I was unsuccessful

Ha. Yes, quite right. I should have said that we have a few design concepts based on sound engineering principles that shall remain under wraps (until proof of concept is achieved); and like tricks, some work, and some do not

Progress

All,

Progress pics from the installation; allmotor_2000, you will note the "T" orientation of the steel braided lines around the charge pipes. I am keen to see how accurately the AWRON gauge derives power estimates once the system is fully installed, compared to a dyno and adjusted for mechanical losses. Fun indeed.

Before you were water boarded by the wife, who's 3.9 build are you going with, Sharkies, Jamies or Cargraphic etc? Will make an awesome GT3!

As for boost juice, it is your choice but you are not gaining anything over distille wate and poor methanol (99% for cleaning etc) run at a mix of 50/50, its chearer than boost juice. Plus Boost juice doesn't have any 'non-flamable' properties over a home mix of water/meth and they add red dye which has been seen to gum up and then break the throttle bodies (not sure where you read about injectors?) Do a search on this forum for some photos of red gummed up and brroken throttle bodies.

Your in good hands with Raz and will be interesting to see this project progress.

Thanks for the advice; I will continue to due diligence the boost juice dilemma! And yes, Raz is a stud, and in my opinion, easily the most knowledgeable as to all aspects of tuning the F10 platform, not to mention one heck of an R&D engineer. As for the engine, due to proximity if nothing else, Sharkwerks... I'm not too enthused about the cycle time however. The inability to manage one's supply chain and properly plan production is an epidemic in the aftermarket.
