Octane boosters

Anyone has any experience with any of these?

Proven results?

I recall reading that Terry regularly uses NOS race formula w/ MMT in all of his cars to get cali-crap 91 to 93. I believe a bottle of NOS w/MMT will boost a full tank of 91 to 93.

I personally have run both NOS w/MMT as well as Torco and have experience positive results from both.

Yeah, I use NOS w/MMT on occasion as well. This article is what convinced me.

However, I believe race gas or the concentrated race gas are better alternatives. They have better density and burn characteristics than 91 octane with an octane booster.

My GF is a petrochemical chemist who works for a major oil company and she gave me caution regarding additives like MMT (methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl) which boosts the octane of gasoline. She said that MMT has ill effects on a car's engine even if only used occasionally. It is very rare that a U.S. oil company uses it as an additive, however, Canada does. So, be cautious regarding its use and it is best to do one's research.

MMT concerns

Based on my GF and info I have gathered, the manganese in MMT gets deposited in several places in a car's engine which can eventually affect its engine performance and durability. I have gathered some info and so far have readily found this one in my computer. I believe you can use the web to searth for others. Anyway, check this URL for one study of the impact of MMT on some car engine parts: http://www.walshcarlines.com/pdf/Imp...al%20-%202.pdf

Here's a snippet of some of the concerns:

Thanks! No reason to take any chances. I just cancelled my order on Amazon which, thankfully, still hadn't shipped.

^While I haven't used this personally, the GTR guys seem to love it, especially here in the heat of AZ. Said to have all the positives of Torco with none of the negatives. Local GTR owner tested it extensively at the track under fairly controlled circumstances with nothing but positive things to say.

Looks like it contains MMT because they say it will leave an orange color on cats and exhaust under the FAQ page.

These octane boosters.. I never use them. Interesting to hear in detail about the ill effects. thanks nybimmerfan.

If you want stronger gas, store a few cans of C5 in your garage. Or just go to a VP gas station. Stuff isn't cheap though. Best to mix pump with VP.. use a octane calc to know what mix of xx pump gas equals what octane.

Add a gallon or two of 100 octane here in SoCal and voila. ..instant 93 oct
A handful of stations around socal sell 100 oct at the pump.

I buy 6 pack cases of the above Torco, and I guarantee I get more horsepower and torque out of my car vs without it.
I am also running the Burger Tuning piggyback tune though. Either that, or I pay $9.99/gallon for full tanks of 100 octane.

The only thing the above shows it MIGHT effect is the stupid catalytic converters -- NOT the engine. Why is anyone worried about the freaking cats?

If you have down pipes, you don't even need to worry about MMT as you don't even have cats.
