Feeling a bit lost...
Gents,
It was with great sadness that this week we traded our M5 in for a temporary daily driver. I have had significant problems with breaks, fuel pumps, idrive, etc to the tune of nine services in nine months. Long story short we got a great offer from a non-BMW dealer and decided to cut our loses. We had little time to act on this offer so as to not take a huge loss once the 2014 M5 hits with the LCI. Needless to say this was a tough decision but now I am feeling sad and lost. I feel like a part of me is gone. I am going to get another M5 in the next year or two depending on the release of the RS7. I made some great friends and experiences with ownership of the M5 and always enjoyed sharing our experiences. Now I have to live vicariously through everyone else. I am hoping I can hold out until the three year reunion of the 9/1 ED back in Germany. Sorry to sound dramatic just feel lost... |

I'm sad to see it go as well! But I honestly can't blame you if you had THAT many issues in such a short time period. I always wonder if issues like yours can be attributed to "year one" syndrome... which is why I'm hoping my E92 M3 will be relatively problem free. *crosses fingers*

TL? Oh goodness. Well, when your Audi is up, the landscape of what's offered will include the LCI Comp package M5, and possibly the M4, M2, 991 GT3 RS.... "I can see clearly now that the rain is gone".....

My original dealer tried to escalate it up to BMWNA and was told that there is nothing BMW is willing to do. SA agreed that there is something wrong. Short of litigation I had no play. My neighbor is still involved in a lemon law case with BMWNA two years now. i didnt have the time nor bandwidth to deal with litigation at this point. |

At least the TL is a good car, I've had 3 of them. It will make a good, economical daily driver till you make the decision to get another M5 or RS7. Who knows, maybe you'll end up with the new NSX lol!

That's very unfortunate that Sam had so many troubles. This makes me sad too. I have to say that I think it's hit or miss with these 2013 M5's.
Between internal mechanical failures, random acts of stupid people on the road, God himself, and the police hating on us, owning an F10 M5 seems to be an interesting ownership experience. I think that you made the right decision though Sam. Keeping a car with that many problems is just not good business. However, if it was me, I would have tried to lemon it and have BMW pay me all my money back. I've done this before. I'll tell you what though Sam, after having driven the E92 M3 at the ///M School, I'd get into one of those until the 2014 LCI F10 M5 is ready to be delivered to you, or like you said wait it out and see what the 2014 Audi RS7 is all about. I'm very interested in seeing what the RS7 is going to be like myself. I don't think I would ever get one though. Lol! If you are every out in San Diego Sam, let me know and I'll let you drive my loud M5!

Man sorry to hear that. I've never had one prob out if my 07 Yukon and I gave 158k now. Mostly highway miles. But with just 5600 this pump failure came up. Hope this is all I have to deal with.

So bummed to hear that you let the car go, especially after taking ED with it...I know for me it would be pretty emotional. That said though, your decision to just part with the car and not get tied up in litigation is probably a good move. Just a distraction unless it is financially beneficial.
+1 with what Dave said. The M3 would be great. But I do understand the TL move...I had one years ago and it was very, very reliable and even fairly fun to drive with a MT!

sam, weren't you the one on ED who was wearing a race suit?
As a fan of BMW it pisses me of seeing their customer treatment. If I buy such a car I expect it running properly...of course cases like this can happen, but as such a strong brand they should take back his M5 and give him a similair MY2013! |

Seems like quite a few of the ED group that pulled the trigger on the early M/Y 2012 M5's are getting out of their cars? Stories like this begin to paint the picture about the # of low mileage F10 M5's on dealer lots.
I owned an early first M/Y E60 and remember all the problems (SMG hydraulic failures, first generation iDrive freezing, etc) with them. I then went on from the 2006 to 2008 to 2010. With my 2010 M5 I made it a point to keep it for three years as I had intentions to buy the next generation M5 and wanted to try and stay away from the early models. Its not always easy to commit to that though. Seems like hit or miss on these early 2012's.. some more problematic than others. I have two mid 2013 F10 M5's with less than 1,200mi and for the most part they are okay. Only problem is just recently.. one of them has a B&O center speaker rattle (goes away when holding down the small silver half circle near the light). Hopefully nothing else appears.

---------------------------------------- OP, sorry to hear your situation. I hope your next high performance sedan will be without problems. Meanwhile, the TL has a quite impressive package especially with its price tag nowadays. I have had one for 7 months before giving it away to my other family member after the M5 purchase. I would love to drive that TL especially during our rainy, sometimes snowy winters. Best of luck for you and hope seeing you back again.

I'm a bit surprised you bought a TL. If I had been you, and I had gone off BMW, I would have bought a Mercedes CL550 - maybe a used one 1 or 2 years old. or perhaps an Infiniti M56S if I was going to buy a Japanese car. Buying used privately, you cut out the dealer margin and save yourself some depreciation.
My guess is you've never engaged in private party auto sales which is why you took a bath on this transaction and ended up with a TL. it's worth giving a shot at selling your car yourself - really pays off and is very little work.
