M5 got hit....

Tis' a sad day. The M5 was in a wreck. What pisses me off is the car has been at the shop for the past week getting a 9500ci and CF parts put on and less than 2 hours later the Vorsteiner front lip got destroyed....

Car is barely drivable. The accident was right by my apartment so I got it into my garage because BMW Assist was unable to get a towtruck out tonight. Car is headed to the dealership tomorrow morning to get a estimate. Pic attached.

Thanks. I hate dealing with insurance. Took them 15 days when my car was parked outside and was a hit-n-run. I ended up paying OOP and the company reimbursed me later. Question to those that have been in an accident:

Can you be reimbursed for aftermarket parts like the lip? It costs $3000+ so I really don't want to have to spend another $3k getting one.

I believe so just as long as you have prove of what you paid for it and you show the insurance

Not always true, your insurance can deny you. You usually have to tell them to underwrite a policy that has aftermarket parts as part of your property insured.

Man that sux! Did somebody hit you while you moving?

On a side note, I didn't know that the frost part of the head light could detach like that. I think the headlight might look better with the frosty part. Hmm...

you can buff that out... no prob. just messin'.

Sorry man... that does suck. But hey... it's just a car... it CAN be fixed. Hang in there.

I think the worse thing is how you JUST had the gorgeous Vorsteiner splitter put on and it gets banged up. That would light me up!!!

Either way... it WILL be fixed. best of luck bud.

Car wreck

Sorry to hear about your ride. I hope you have better luck then me. December of 2014, I hit a coyote and had significant front end damage. Insurance company (AAA) was great. But, it took weeks, almost months to get parts from BMW. Remember these parts are not "on a shelf". Also, your parts may have to be transported from Germany. I finally got my car back near the end of February 2015. rides like a dream...

With or without the frosty part? I didn't know it could detach either, I thought they sprayed the inside of the headlight with stuff, but it's held in place with 3 tabs.

2 hours... That's how long the disffuser was on for... Farmers is going to reimburse me for it, but it'll take like 2 or 3 weeks to get another one...

YES you can, as long as it's NO fault and the third party admits liability.

You can then demand what you have on the car.

I had "Paint shield Sun-tek" applied to my M6 and the insurance was not aware or told, when my car got dumped on by a lorry full of 3/4 ballast I got everything replaced no problems or questions asked.
I must add I had full video evidence should the third party deny my claim.

+1

Unless you specified at the time the insurance was written that the car had expensive aftermarket modifications that you wanted covered, you could be out of luck. However, you can always 'work' the claims adjuster to just 'go along' with the repair shop's estimate of what it would take to restore the car to its pre-collision condition (including modifications) instead of him working from his manual. Good luck!

(P.S. -- That assumes it's a claim against your own policy. If you're dealing with the other party's insurance, then you can demand full restoration.)

Call from the BMW dealership with the total so far: $21,000 with some more parts tat don't have a price, it's expected to hit around $24,000 and my BMW SA is deamnding another $3,500 for the Vorsteiner lip.

the best news is that no one got hurt
parts and cars can be replaced
when our parts break (fractures, whiplash) they are never the same
but is always a big bummer to have our "f10 babies" get hurt
