Coming from the E60 iDrive, there is no comparison obviously. Comparing to my 2011 Z435is (April or May 2010 build), the iDrive is vastly improved. I had one of the first 2011 MY Z435is, so that iDrive did not have Office, BMW Connected Drive, etc. Technology has taken a giant leap. The animations are an "elegant" touch and the responsiveness is fantastic. I can't make a comparison to 2013's as I never played with one.

As for the touchpad, though, I'm beginning to think it's pointless. It recognizes characters quickly, and announces each one if you pause, but I think I can spin the wheel more quickly or just use voice entry. Obviously, the touchpad has more functionality in other markets. Maybe it would be more useful if used while driving so you don't take your eyes off the road, but other than that, I don't see myself using it much. In that case, voice entry is better.

Yes I agree completely with you, with everything you have said. The idrive system has come along way since its realise. Going from a ccc to a cic is also a big jump. I think the new idrive system now is above the best in all shapes. The way it flows to how clear and well laid out everything is.
As for the touch pad I believe it's only a good thing to show to your mates because its pointless for anything else. Know doubt about it it's a clever system in how it works but I feel there is no real need for it when we have our systems running already fast and a brilliant voice control system

The exhaust sounds sweet, but maybe I'm expecting more "punch." During the break-in, I'm not gunning it, so maybe once that's over, it will be more of an aural delight! Yes, I'm actually trying--very hard--to follow break-in procedures!

Sounds nice from inside the cabin, but of course I know that's fake!

I'll try to get a sound clip up.

I don't know if the screen is any different from 2012/2013's, but to my eyes, the resolution is incredibly sharp... much sharper than the panel in the dash. That could use an update now. I wish we could get the full black panel display like on regular 5 series models now, but somehow simulated needles seems so anti-M!

Yes, on the newer f10,f30, with professional nav the screen is different alot clearer and layed out better and more smooth in operation. Also the parking sensor screen has changed on the new later models I don't no if you have recognised this. It displays a more realistic image of the car.

Congrats on your '14M5! Is the center compartment noticeably bigger? I'll be doing my ED on 8/29. Can't wait!

Big ask here: any chance you might be willing to meet up with someone who has a 2013 M5 and compare cars. I am curious how big a difference there is of CP vs non CP cars. The reviews on line don't do a direct comparo and they tend to talk more about how big a difference the CC brakes make which has nothing to do with the CP.

Yes and yes. Connected drive must be included because I didn't sign up for anything additional. Played with some of the limited widgets. Meh. Got Pandora running thankfully. Connecting Office with my iPhone 5 was a pain. Got texts to work, but not emails. I guess that's still an iOS issue.

Center console compartment is incredibly small. I'll try to get a shot up tomorrow. I gather its no different in size since you're asking! I plug my phone in and that's about all I put in there. Plus no iPhone 5 snap in adaptor yet.

Beautiful car and color combo is stunning! I notice in your pics that your brakes are standard blue (ie, no ceramic carbon). I guess I am and have been mistaken that the Comp Package included the CC brakes?

Congrats - your car looks fantastic. I pick up mine in around 4 weeks. My son was pushing me to get SO exterior but I chickened out and took SG - however I do have the full Sakhir interior. Your 601m wheels look great - I had my doubts but stayed with them. Happy about that now. Enjoy getting to know your beautiful new machine and thanks for sharing with us !

A sharp looking car with bold color combination providing an aggressive sporty look consistent with the performance it's capable of delivering. I particularly like the way the headlights have not inexplicably migrated by a thin strip to meet up with the kidney grill. Whoever at BMW conceived of and signed off on that as a unified design motif for future models should be fired or at least kicked in the butt. Sigh... But your car's LCI look I think reflects the pinnacle in evolution of the look of this model's run and to my eye will be an enduring example of a classic BMW. The design motifs work and just plain look good.
