Winter Wheel/Tire Set Up
Guys,
Recently purchased my f10 m5 and thinking about the upcoming winter. I haven't decided whether to purchase 19' wheels or slap winter tires on my OEM 20's. Would love to hear about and see your winter set ups! How many of you are using 20' wheels? As far as tires goes, on my e60 i used Dunlop Wintersport m3...however for the f10 I'm considering the Nokian Hakkapalita 8's. Any input would be appreciated! |

Take a look at these threads. Can you even run studded winter tires in Illinois?

Good point. Here is what I found:
"Illinois Studded tire use is not permitted for most drivers. Rural mail carriers and persons with disabilities living in unincorporated areas may use them between November 15 and April 1." Not sure how strict they would be... Quote:

I had 20" BBS CH-R on my F10 M5 with Dunlop WinterSport 3D tires (setup is currently for sale as I sold the car). I we t with the 20s to guarantee there weren't any clearance issues. They are a perfect fitment and looked great. I actually liked the look better than the factory wheels.
PM me if you're interested in them. |

BLizzaks for tire only thing i recommend ..doesnt matter if its 20 or 19 or 18 get blizzaks and then just stretch them if you have 295, you can do 275-295 for rears you can do square set up for winter tires as well .

Sure Blizzaks are good snow tires but I wanted more of an emphasis on a good handling, cold weather tire. I also went well the Dunlop wintersport 3D tires.
Not bad in the snow but they also perform well in dry, cold conditions. I went with 20" and purchased the tire/wheel package from Tirerack. Total cost was about $2,200 if memory serves. All four tires are 265 in width, but if I had to do it over again I would consider a wider rear tire. I do have a four wheel drive SUV if it gets too bad. Dave |

Yes, that was me on Dodge. Not too many M5's around Omaha so it is kind of surprising to see another one.
The wheels are sport edition st5, 9.5 inches wide and 20" diameter and the wheels are 265 sp Dunlop wintersport 3d tires. I would recommend wider tires in the rear though as there was little traction on dry pavement with the 265"s. You may give up a little traction in the snow but they usually do a decent job of clearing snow in Omaha. Be careful on the wheels. My M5 was built after 3/1/14 so your 2013 may require a slightly different wheel. The winter wheel and tire install guide on tirerrack will walk you through the process. I really wish we had more tuning installer options in Omaha. It would be great to try one of the new flash tunes. Take care, Dave |
