How to Launch My M5/M6 at the Drag Strip(DCT)
These cars are notorious for wheel spin and and going sideways from really any speed under 40mph, from a dig near impossible for traction at full throttle stock or modded. I am asked regularly: - how do you get your 1/4 times? - how do you launch? - how do you burn out enough to get tires warm at track? - etc etc... The M5/6 are under rated from factory. Their are no "factory freaks" the cars are all built by machine and made the same way. The difference would be max 10-20whp and that is all depending on location, temp, quality of gas and Dyno settings. These cars will do mid 11s at 12X+ all day at the track Bone stock. I know because I have tested it with Drag tires on a bone stock car (11..5 @123mph) ** FULL traction must be disengaged. Step 1: Tires- if you are not on Drag tires or semi Drag tires (I.E.: R888, Micky Thompson ET Streets) then this will not really help you. Step 2: Tire Pressure- I have noticed the best settings that work for me for the following tires at the Drag strip and street. (Results may very on location and track prep) - R888 * Drag strip: 23-25PSI * Street- 27-28PSI -ET Streets * Drag strip: 22-25 PSI (Depending on power of car, more power leans you closer to the 22psi) * Street- 28psi (these tires suck on street so don't recommend driving them on street) For those that drive Super sports daily I highly recommend 31-32Psi in rear for daily driving. Improves grip greatly vs the recommended settings of 35-36psi. Step 3: Burn Out in Box- once you get to the Burnout Box and are at a complete standstill you will MASH the gas pedal like a press on light switch(aggressive stomp on gas) and keep foot all the way down. The car will start to spin, try to keep wheel aligned. The cars revs will spike and as soon as they approach redline shift into 2nd and as soon as they approach redline shift into 3rd and ride that spin out. This will give you a 4-6 sec burn out and will keep you as still as you possible can lol. The tires will be nice and toasty! Step 4: Launch: I have experimented and have found that Launch control simply does not work. The best technique for launching these cars is simple. Once the cars tires are nice and toasty and you are waiting for the green To drop you simply keep foot on the break so car does not move. Right before the light drops to green remove foot off the break and get ready to stomp that Gas pedal exactly like you would if you ready to do a burn out. The car will JUMP! Don't be scared, it will slingshot and just go!! You will feel like you have been kicked in the ass by a steam train. The revs will go very fast and you will need to be vary wary of shift points etc. Step 4: How do you get good times?: You will need to know when and how to shift the car. Stock car- 6.8k RPM Shift. The car has so much torque and runs out of steam up top their is no sense in blowing hot air. Vbox tested this is best shift point. Modified car(FBO Tune)- 6.4k RPM SHIFT. The car as anyone has seen once modified dives after 6.3-6.5k RPM. The car is Faster by .1-.3 by shifting at these points vs closer to redline. Vbox and track proven. Along with all of this allot of variables to consider: - Quality of gas - temps - road surface - track prep - etc.. - good luck and don't break anything! |

I tried to mash the gas pedal at the green and it would bog off the line. It was almost like the car was in neutral, then would go into gear once I hit the pedal. It would move forward just enough to start the timer. I was getting 2.4 second 60' times. I now have a M6, so I'll give it another shot using your method with this car.

Axles need upgrade anytime when using Mickey's. It's inevitable they will pop.
Best 60' I have gotten was a 1.57 and similar launch technique as the OP described. Need to really warm up the tires first! |

I neither had those slick tires nor went to drag race but had some fun launches on BACK YARD ROAD ... My experience was different from yours.
Setting up everything on SPORT+/S3 and DSC OFF, modulating the throttle up to 4K and then floor it following up with upshift at 7K, could have 0-60 in 3.6x second on stock car with 305/30/20 Nitto NT05 ...

You need to try to spin those tires as long as possible and get them hot? What was your Tire pressure? Nitos suck. MT ET Streets or R888 my friend. |

Also bone stock best 0-60 I managed was 3.7 on Vbox and that was with Drag tires. So your 3.6 claim on street lol .. well that sounds unrealistic lol. |

My 60ft was 1.9 and my tire pressure around 28. I might have a line on some mt et streets 20". Should I get a 10.5" rim to put it on?

For your reference there are many magazines reported 3.7 with stock tires on M5 which is slightly slower than M6 ; So 3.6x with Nitto Nt05 which is about 30% softer than stock MPSS (UTQG 200 vs 300) is not unrealistic... Car and Driver even claimed 3.5 second with M6 GC here: http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...specs-page-5-2 So 0-60 quicker than 3.7 is possible if you know how to launch your car correctly But if you don't like my quotes, please feel free to ignore it

They run their cars on race gas (100 octane) and drag tires when they test their 1/4. 9/10 cars are tested this way. |

M5 is slightly slower than M6 ....you hopefully agree with this statement.... So 3.6x does not sound unrealistic for M6 |
