I was in NYC last weekend, and valet parking is unavoidable. I gave the guy a tip when I dropped off the car, and he said he'd put it up front.

He put me next to a Maserati, with a Bentley, Porsche, and Benz nearby, and an empty spot on the other side.

The ONLY way to valet. Tip up front and it's got to be a double-digit tip.

Could you guys recommend me some safe places to park in Manhattan(w42nd / 10th ave)? I am planning a road trip to NY and this article scares me.

The only place I park when I drive in is the Port Authority parking garage. The entrances are right behind the PA near the Lincoln Tunnel. It's the only self park garage in midtown that I'm aware of. The are a bunch of "good" spaces (spaces where you can park in such a way that someone would have to try to hit/damage your car) on the outdoor section of the first level and on the second level. Parking can be tough weekdays from 7:00/8:00 in the morning until mid-afternoon, otherwise you likely will find a spot pretty easily.

GM has a solution for this. Valet mode - disables stereo, locks glove compartment and activated built-in dash cam with telemetry so you have a video recording of what the Valet did.

Thanks! I am planning to go there on the Labor Day weekend. Would it be safe to park over night?

My impression was that car manufactures don't care since if they(valet or owner) break things.. It's good for service department. Haha

What a GREAT feature!! GM does do a good job of adding useful features before a lot of other manufacturers.

Cant avoid valet and I still do even though I have had issues.

Once a valet at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills backed my Ferrari 458 into a concrete knee wall surrounding some bushes while he was parking it in the front.

I've had wheel scratches on previous cars multiple times from valets - nothing tooooo serious, but still.
Once at Nobu Los Angeles the valet hit the curb on La Cienega when pulling up in my old 2011 550i w/ 21" iForged wheels -- that sucked dick.

I think so, but I've never parked over night or on a weekend so cannot be sure. When they renovated the garage a couple years ago they installed new lighting, so it's pretty brightly lit. I usually arrive first thing (around 5:15AM) and the garage is mostly empty so it seems it's mostly commuters using the garage.
