Time to say goodbye
All,
It is with regret that i am announcing that our beast will be sold to carmax later this week! Our beloved 2013 M5 in Azurite black with Full Sakhir Orange leather and with all my mods will make place for the Porsche Macan Turbo. We are looking to move to NJ and unfortunately, with the inclement weather, the M5 will just not be the most practical. If anyone is sincerely interested in the car, scream loud, on Friday i will head over to Carmax to hand in the keys of this beauty. -R PS. She has 14k miles and not a single scratch, ding or wear & tear. |

Why sell? I use mine as my daily driver here in NJ with no major issues. Yes, this past winter was horrible, but it's not been this bad in years. Most winters the M5 as a DD is just fine as long as you invest in a set of winter tires. I'd get up here and give it a try before throwing in the towel.
PS - per my sig, I've been driving M5s through NJ winters for over 10 years, so I speak from experience.

Interesting - you put winter tires on the 20" or get special rims?
I REALLY do not want to sell the car as I have pampered her for all this time.... |

Drove mine through the most brutal winter I have seen in years and just got the M6 to replace (all you need is a good set of winters). I am sure a Macan Turbo will be ok.. but after even driving test Panamera GTS I was surprised at how much I missed the ///M experience - went straight to an M6

Made it perfectly fine through the last winter in Central Jersey - on the original Miches on 19". Twice did I slip a tad but with ultra careful driving (and nobody else around) that was no problem.

I use a 19" 4-square set-up (front tire size on all four corners) with Bridgestone Blizzacks on the BMW OEM winter wheel for the M5 (I believe model 408).

These cars have a full locking limited slip differential. Get blizzaks and you are going to drive around in a foot of snow when suvs with all seasons get stuck.
I drove my M3s many years, in one instance I had a police cruiser literally pushing an X5 with its metal bumpers and I was fine. |

Listen to AGS.
Use that Heated Steering Wheel, Heated Front Seats, and Executive Package Heated Rear Seats during the winter. That's what you are paying for! Lol! There are snow tires in 20" wheel sizes for our M5's. Also to protect against salt, either give your M5 a thorough washing weekly/daily or do what I did and just vinyl wrap the entire car. Time and money well spent! But yeah I survived this past winter just coming from San Diego last year, I think you can survive it with an M5 as well.

Post Member Blue.Thunder is the only person I've seen that has used the 409M wheels on his M5 and they look fantastic as well as being a very functional winter wheel.

I've been driving a 2010 M3 without snow tire the last few years in souther New York. It's been fine and on a few of the extra bad days I've taken a cab to the train station. Last winter was pretty bad. I now have a F10 M5 and this year plan to get snow tires. I think that will cover me most of the winter. Only issue is with the CP the ground clearance isn't great so I could see one or two days a year when we get a foot of snow and the side streets haven't been plowed yet I may be in trouble and will need to use a cab or something. I'm willing to live with that inconvience to keep the car. Now if you have a 40 mile commute each way to work, can't take a cab and can't work from home 2-3 days a year on the extra bad days you may have a point.

With good winter tires, you will not have issues with an M5 in the winter. Sure, there are a few days that are just too nasty, but then you are able to use the car on all those other days. And don't forget... drifting in the snow in big, wide open areas, with no one around.... So much fun
M5 in the winter is easy. You'd be crazy to sell it and that's from a winter-hardened Canadian! Snap out of it, man! |
