2015 Alpine White M5 - Pics and First Impressions

I've now had my M5 for almost a week but only 4 days and 200 miles of driving. Bottom line, I am quite glad I went for the M5. It has it all.

Some background, this is my 10th BMW, including an '02 M5, and my other current BMW, an X3 35i MSport, so all things BMW are very familiar to me. I've also driven the F10 M5 at two M track events at Lime Rock and CoTA, so I know what it can do on track.

I really haven't gotten on it too hard, given the limited miles so far but I now understand the feeling of limited traction in cold weather with the traction light blinking so much, especially on a hard right. However, it still feels the M diff is doing its thing and giving you what it can. I've not tried MDM yet but I have used the sport modes. I'm not one to burn rubber off the line all the time but I sure enjoy the mid range torque on on-ramps. It so effortlessly deals with traffic, like Michael Jordan playing a game of pickup basketball versus guys that barely can dribble.

Dislikes: Not any real dis-likes so far. The black rims are growing on me but I like the overall look with them on Alpine white.

Question: Has anyone been able to compare the exhaust note of standard '15 models (no CP) with '13 models? It seems throatier than I recall and all the videos I can find. Less "whir" and more "growl" when winding out.

Future Mods: Black grills and side louvers most likely, but I'm not sure what to do with the chrome in the door handles.

Now the pics. I attended our December Cars & Coffee. A white e34 M5 ended up next to it.

Outstanding! Thank God you got Full Leather.

Don't be afraid of MDM. First use it while are you are driving straight. It will cut power somewhat if you have the steering wheel turned. Just be careful with MDM or DSC OFF while in a turn, don't use the throttle unless you have cat-like reflexes like Boots, and can catch the drift.

I'm going to put up some instructional videos on the ins and outs of the M5 soon. In fact I just learned something today about the M5 that I never knew before. It definitely takes years to Master the M5. The E60 M5 was an easier car to drive and I Mastered that car in 3 years of ownership, the F10 M5 will probably take twice as long.

Just respect the torque.

What did you learn today?
With what you learned, can you go 0-60 in 3.4 second ?

Kind of a small thing, but sometimes it's the idiosyncrasies that can make the difference. Did you know that if you shut off your M5/M6 with the gear shift knob still in the reverse position, the light on the DCT gearshift lever will blink at you? Found this out today when I shutoff my car with the knob still in Reverse. Lol!

Congrats

Love the black wheels with the white.

For the door handles you can have the silver strip covered with wrap. Thats what I did for my Sapphire Black M5

Somewhere on our forum there are PICS of an awesome white M5 like yours who placed the wrap himself with some detailed instructions. Im not handy had my done for about 40 dollars.

I agree to hide the remainder of the chrome with black kidney grills and side louvers. One thing I would love to see is for the side Louver IND replacements have the outside (chrome piece) paint exterior color white and maybe along with the middle part in white with only the inner part (mesh) in black. Maybe IND has PICs. It is such a big piece and stands out too much IMO. Painting it exterior color will blend it into the fender but also still have part of the black bits to match other trim pieces. Also it may give a more linear effect to go along with placing wrap on door handles

Second impressions now, two weeks and 650 miles in. I joined a group of younger guys with a range of M's from e36 M3 e46 M3, Limerock e92 M3, 1M, and M235i on a jaunt thru nice twisties.
I was quite pleased with the handling, plenty of grip and nice balance when managing the throttle. I used all sport settings, S2 mode, and full DSC. I didn't feel hampered by it on the road. I'm still avoiding super hard launches and full throttle while in break in mode but did find 6K RPM in 3rd and 4th somewhere in Mexico

Now for a concern, on a tar and gravel road, (no loose gravel) I did get a steering column buzz when at significant speeds, even in comfort setting. It seemed deep inside the column. But it went away on normal pavement.
Even with the hard driving, my MPG average went up a bit. I estimate 18 when pushing it and 22 on the return cruise home.
