Opinions on upcoming purchase

Hi all. Just joined here. Usually post on the M5 Forum but this site seems get a lot more traffic especially in here.

Anyway, I posted this over there and thought I’d try here as well. Hoping to get opinions/insight on which vehicle you guys would pick from these.

1 - 2014 comp package black on black w/26k. Extended warranty available for 3k-ish that’s good to 100k and is bumper to bumper with 100 dollar deductible. Warranty is also transferrable which is a big selling point.

2 - 2014 comp package Singapore grey on black w/ 29k. Can purchase extended warranty for 7-8k-ish. Car is also located 1000 miles from me.

3 - 2015 comp package space grey on black w/25k. Also has B&O stereo which I think I want. Also has lane departure and all that but I’m not sure I need any of it. Might be nice to have but it’s not going to sway me one way or the other. Few months left of manufacturer warranty and could purchase extended for 6k-ish.

All three are within 4K of each other price wise with the cheapest (number 1) being 56k. Car 2 and 3 both have black 343 wheels which I’d like to have. Car 1 has 343’s but they’re the normal polished. I’m thinking if I did get car 1 I could get them powder coated but not sure how much this would run.

Looks wise I’d pick number 2. I love that gray color. Best deal wise I think number 1 is it. I know this is very subjective but I’m looking for opinions on what you would pick based on options, price, miles, warranty. And are there any big changes between 14 and 15 years?

Thanks,
Jon

Dont think you could go wrong with either

Id extend the manufacture warranty for sure

Pick the one that has colors that you prefer and go for it

3 strong options.

Service records, Carfax, visual inspection, PPI and other factors should be taken into account as well as they will reveal information that may sway you more in one direction.

I personally like the B&O option so I would lean in that direction all else being equal.

No difference between 14 & 15 MY.

Prices on these vehicles have fallen off a cliff; do your HW on pricing as well.

I too would lean to #3 only because the B&O. It's a huge upgrade.

Are these all the BMW warranty, or is #1 through a 3rd party? Some 3rd party are great while others far from it. Note if 3rd party okay (a topic too big for here), then any of these can still be covered.

Thanks for the info. And you're right on the prices of them. I am doing research of course but I still wonder if I'd be getting a good deal on 2014 for 55k-ish. I'm leaning towards the 2014 one in Austin because it's the color and options I want (I misspoke above and said the 2015 had B&O and it's actually this 2014 one that has it). Obviously condition, miles, etc. play into that price. I'd like to be low 50's out the door but from what I've seen with warranties, I don't think it's going to happen. I feel like I could get them off the 57.9k asking price and down towards 54-55k. I just hate to tack 6 or 7k on top of that price in order to get that peace of mind. Conversely I'd kick myself for not getting a warranty the first time something crapped out and I'm stuck with the bill.

Decisions...

Number one is through CarMax.
Numbers two and three would be whatever the BMW dealership offers. I'll have to get more details on them.

I would not got any of those.

For reference you can get a 2014 singapore gray with 67k miles, comp package with exec, drives assist, competition package, full leather, lighting, black 343m for 38k. I don't think 40k extra miles are worth extra 18k. Fidelity warranties these cars even with high mileage they can be bought at any Fidelity dealer so even a Honda dealer can sell you this warranty. Anywhere from $4k-$6k you have to shop around.

And if you are buying the car from a honda, vw, toyota, chevy, bmw dealer they all have reputable aftermarket warranties that you can purchase for extra 5k-6k on these more mileage vehicles.

If you really wait you can find a really sweet deal on a high mileage car. I missed out on a singapore/so full leather, b/o, comp, ccb, exec, drives assistance, hud, night vision for 42k with 66k miles.

My 2 cents.

Im in the same position now. Found a 2014 with 10.5K miles Comp exec package. Just like I want it for $62.K. Price is scary but the mileage is just right. oh and the car is 2k miles away from me. Still thinking about it. Have you pulled the plug on yours?

Link to 2014 you mention? Is it the one in Atlanta at the VW dealer?

Where? That is far below anything I've seen. Likely multiple accidents or rebuilt.

You would need to find a dealer who works with them AND happens to have the car you want. Fidelity will not sell to you at all after rolling off the lot.

IMO the miles are worth it to keep low. BMW seals go from the most pliable to brittle over time in dramatic fashion, and there are countless seals and hoses that would require R&R of engine/tranny to access on an M5. Mind you aftermarket warranties rarely cover hoses. Some cover seals. The market is in line with miles costing around $500/1000mi.

Its for sale at a VW dealer in Atlanta. The title is clean and car has no paintwork. The 14s are getting very cheap now. Plenty for sale in the low 40's and mid 40's.

You can buy the warranty through a dealer that is authorized to sell the warranty. You did not have to buy the car from them.

I pulled the trigger last January with a car from California and had it shipped to Charlotte. It had everything I wanted in options, color combination and CPO. Originally was nervous purchasing site unseen but did Facetime with the salesman and had my local SA review the history. All worked out - Good Luck!

I would certainly target cars w/ low mileage if the price point is right. While I believe you can get great deals on higher mileage cars, they come w/ additional risks IMO, even if you purchase warranty as many exclude many wear and tear items.

I agree with all of this thus the reason I was looking for lower mileage cars. I've done the higher mileage thing before and didn't have any issues but with cars these days being so complicated I think it's worth the extra $$ for a little peace of mind.

Yea I've seen that car. It's got 67k on it for $41.3. I gave it a thought since it's the color I want but I just can't come to terms with it hitting 70k miles a week or two after I purchased it.

Also looks like it's gone now anyway.

I've looked out in CA and WA some. They do have some nice stuff but I didn't want to deal with shipping. But it's a good idea nonetheless.

I'm in Charlotte too.
