Steering Vibration in 2013 Model Years

For those of you with a 2013, are you getting a lot of steering vibration? I've had mine about 7 months now and I'm really starting to feel it on long trips. It's not vibration like you'd get from tires/brakes. It's very much like this video review:https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/videos/2013-bmw-m5/ at about the 6min 40 second mark. It's gotten to the point on long trips where my hands do feel numb or tingly.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? I'm afraid that if I make a service appointment, I'm going to be told "this is normal" even though it really is starting to irritate me.

Yes. There is no fix for it. I've tried everything including all of the SIB's in every thread you will find on the internet. Ended up using Lemon Law and getting a newer one.

I took my car in this morning for new front tires as a first step and the shop foreman just called me back and said he definitely noticed it on his post install test drive. His words were "it feels like there is 100 pounds of air in the tire". They did an alignment, checked the rims, and road force balanced my tires. They are going to keep the car for the next few days but I'm glad to know that they didn't just brush me off and clearly agree something is not right.

They also found a coolant leak on one of the lines coming one of the turbo intercooler.

I'll keep you guys posted on how this goes. This should be an interesting ride...

One member reported his was fixed by replacing a sticking front caliper. The dealership swapped out all new front brakes and it was ok for awhile. The sticking front caliper then heated the rotor warping it again, vibration came back. They discovered the caliper sticking causing the warping. Replaced the caliper and no more vibrations. Hope it helps, please keep this thread updated.

The latest from my Service Advisor today is that the shop foreman is investigating this as being related to EDC/Suspension. She said they fixed the turbo coolant leak first today and are now turning to the vibration. I'm going to hold back on what others have suggested on this forum as solutions (new steering column or sticking front caliper). I don't want to see what they come up with vs. seeding them with info that may not be helpful.

Will update as I know more...

Not sure if this is the same issue I have. At highway speeds only, there is an annoying squeak (not very loud at all) and the wheel vibrates a little, but it does it intermently. Only lasts for 1 to 2 seconds. So weird. No lane departure warning, it feels different than that, and it happens with it off.

Dealer said they compared my car against a 2016 M5 and while there is a difference, it's minor. They can't find any other cause so they said they will forward their information to BMW NA and see what they say. In the meantime, they asked me to come get the car and let me know how it feels and once they hear back from BMW NA, they will let me know what next steps are. My spidey sense says this will go nowhere...

This has been on of my major irritations with M cars I've owned. Once the vibration starts it seems to never want to go away. I had a E46 M3 and I don't think anything really fixed it. Had a E60 M5 and was flawless all the way even with wheel spacers. My F10 2015 was fine until I added spacers and then anything over 90 mph shook the wheel. Took the spacers off and it was ok except had to get new tires. Only ones available at the time were Pirellis and they vibrated like crazy the whole time (no spacers). Recently went back to oem Michelins and for now pretty much all is back to normal. Good luck.

Definitely no change after the new tires. Car is back with the dealer and they are waiting on BMW North America to respond to their open case (they called it s a PUMA case).

This is why I sold my beautiful M5 after three months. I couldn't bear the vibration. I might get a 2016 in two years and hope that issue has been taken care off.

BMW NA mechanic looked at it and test drove it and it's "performing normally". Case. Closed :-/

Just picked up a 13 and mine does it around 55-65mph. Does not do it before and clears up after. Very strange.
