Lowering springs on front only
This is a odd topic but on my C63 I had only the front lowered for almost a year period as there was a shortage of rear springs and when I finally got them I never installed them lol. The car was fine over a year.
In the case of the M5 I feel the rear is perfect height while the front is just too much finger gap. I was thinking of buying eibatchs or the vogtlands and only installing the front springs. The front is a easy DIY too. Back in the day some e92 m3 guys were running eibachs in front and zcp in rear and it was the perfect look. What are your guys thoughts on this? |

Just get H&R’s. They drop the front more than most other aftermarket springs. I don’t recommend just changing out the fronts. Aftermarket springs usually are tuned as a unit and not in combination with OEM springs

I would say just do both front and rear. Just my 2cents, I would not mix aftermarket (harder springs) with stock softer springs. Seems it will throw off the whole ride.
But maybe someone else with more experience will chime in.

Another reason which why I only want to do the front is because the rear is so much work. I always fear some piece or speaker will be damaged or incorrectly reinstalled. Appreciate all the advice and comments |

KW HAS is the best route outside of coils as you can adjust as you please with consistent spring rates in each corner.

has anyone got a definitive answer on what spring rate you are getting from KW/H&R etc?
The best answer i got was from KW who said that their lowering springs are developed on a 4 post shaker rig to work with the stock dampers, and therefore the spring rates are very similar to stock. Which is what a suspension specialist should actually do. If the spring is too stiff for the damper the car will be under damped in rebound, giving a choppy ride. So lowering springs are more for looks than handling was my conclusion I actually wanted to fit slightly stiffer front springs to kill understeer (push), but as the lowering springs were no stiffer, i decided to fit a front Comp Pack anti roll (sway) bar, which has worked very nicely and is VERY cheap for a BMW OEM part, and quick to fit. |
