The issue is not a 2013 car issue - it's particular to your and racer10s cars. You have lemons. Both my 2013 and 2014 M5s have equally smooth vibration free steering. They feel the same.

Your car sounds lemon law eligible. if after the third attempt the problem still exists, then you should send written notice to fix the car through a lemon law attorney. BMW will be required to fix the car within 10 days or buy it back for a very high percentage of the original price.

Lemon law is awesome.

My master tech confirmed this in every car he test drove at their dealer in CT. It's an endemic issue he said. It's has been since march now. If they don't have it sorted soon, Lemon Law might make sense ultimately.

Funny enough I sent that VERY video along to BMW engineering in the US and Germany. This is not an instance, but rather a plague of sorts.

Sadly I've gotten used to the vibration at this point. But this post has re-invigorated my case.

I don't buy it. I've driven lots of 2013s and none of them had vibration. By lots I mean the one in Seville, about 3 of them at the performance center, 1 in Austin and my own.

This is a lemon issue not a 2013 design.

I drove a used 2013 in Tampa just 3 weeks and it had the vibration issue and I had the salesman put his hand on the steering wheel as I was driving to confirm that he felt it. He had no explanation and said he would talk to service . He never called me back.. My theory is that many cars produced prior to 3/13 have this issue and you either had to be lucky to get one that didn't or what you feel you just accept as normal. All of this said I am taking mine back into service for another review next week but having spoken to the service manager to arrange the appointment and asking him to research the issue I am not hopeful that there is a solution. By the way drove a 2014 MB E63 AMG this afternoon and IMO Motor Trend is clueless. The only thing that I thought was better than the M5 was in fact the steering feel.

Further info:
If the road is 100% smooth (i.e. newly paved) there's almost no vibration. However if there is just a little bit of wear, the high frequency vibration returns. It seems to amplify whatever road imperfections there are.

Also, it is NOT road feedback, feels like a vibration on top of whatever feedback is already coming through the wheel.

My GTR has smoother steering, and that's saying something.

I have a '14 LCI with 3000 miles on it. I noticed a little bit driving around Dallas, but recently took my first road trip to Houston and had this CONSISTENTLY above 75mph (VERY noticeable at triple digits). Definitely caused "numbing" of the hands and very annoying. Haven't had a chance to take it to the dealer yet. I've driven fast a plenty in my life and never had this problem on other cars. It almost has a cyclical / pulsating feel to it (or its intensity) :

Good question as I was about to ask it myself.

Amen Really not possible IMHO. There are very few items to change out that would have any spoken of effect and I'd be rather sure the dealer has completed them.

This reminds me of guy the So. CA Toyota Prius who could not turn off the key or stop the car with the breaks.

Hi guys

I have 2 cars that I don't use very often and I can confirm that the problem you are experiencing is caused by a flat spot on the tyre.
This is caused by the car being parked for a prolonged period. It's especially bad on my SLS I use it maybe twice a month and every time for about 30 mins I get the same tingling sensation through the steering. Continental tyres are worst for this issue.

I have pirelli's on the panamera and that doesn't seem to do it.

My LCI M5 is due mid December and I really hope it doesn't come with contis.

Best thing to do is get some temperature into the tyres also inflate 2psi above the manufacturers recommended.

I have spent ridiculous money on balancing and even changing cars for vibration issues such as this only to find out the above. So I hope you guys can benefit from this.

Honestly he's lying. Dealerships are lazy and if there is a complex problem (which lemon problems usually are), they try to get out of it by pretending it's normal.

It's not normal. If it was normal there would be a 30 page thread of every 2013 owner complaining about it on this board.

I highly doubt it's a flat spot, since on a newly paved road the vibration is non existent. Seems like something is amplifying bumps in the road into high frequency vibrations. Also I had a euro delivery car, so the longest the car ever sat was probably the one month on the boat.

This is pretty terrible. I do a lot if long drives and this is a real issue to me. Anyone actually considering a lemon law claim for this?

Hi Guys,

I thoroughly enjoy reading the forum and have learned a lot from the board members, but never really posted anything because I thought I have nothing to contribute until now. I too have the stupid steering vibration problem so I took it in. I attached the invoice for what was done to the front suspension. I just got the car back today and I can say that 80% of the vibration is gone. I hope this help the members who are having the same problem.

Hope the picture comes up.

Ok. I'm not very good with this. Maybe I can e-mail the invoice to someone so they can post it in the thread. Thanks
