Walmart also carries this + 0w40 as well but they rarely go on sale. Regular price @ Walmart is $11.47. Again, both say "European Formula"

Is it safe to switch from 5w-30 to 0w-30 on next oil change? Not even sure dealers here carry that

YES no problems, you will find the car warms up better/quicker and runs smoother IMO.

Absolutely not. 0W-40 Mobil 1 Euro Formula. I'm not experiencing any oil burning.

Thats "Bull" I am afraid.
They probably only have 5-30 oil and don't want to buy any in.

Poppycock. The second (i.e. 30 or 40) number is more important in the summer. Though my Mobil 1 0W-40 has been known to be slightly more viscous than some other 40s, it is better than 30W in Texas heat. That said, dealers saying things such as what was said to you reinforces my utter lack of faith, on average, of dealer competency. As I've said here before, and I know I'm probably the exception to the demographic of those who would buy this car, I've raced, rebuilt, and worked on engines since I was very young. My grandfather worked for an oil filter company for >35yrs, and taught me all about oils and flow at a young age. This is precisely why the dealer does not get near my car unless I am forced for warranty sake, etc. I'll do three oil and filter changes for each one of theirs. Overkill? Most certainly. It makes me happy, and it is always done right.

1 quart every 1000 miles I was just at the dealer for this issue. I don't accept 1 quart every 1000 miles that's bullcrap. The engine cannot possibly be built this loose from an OEM to require that much oil.

Background :
I broke my M in via Euro Delivery / mountain passes. I didn't redline the car until after 5k miles. But I did wind it up to around 5k before the initial break-in service at 1200 miles. And increased the rpms to approx 6k before getting to 5k miles.
So the break-in was not exactly easy on the car... But it wasn't abusive.

I am now at 7100 miles and just added my 2nd qt two weeks ago.

Get them to get in touch with BMW Germany, there is a test and a limit on this heavy consumption , get it done on your car, i would.
