Clunking Suspension

The parts to fix the famous clunking suspension are now available. My service adviser put them on order from Germany on Monday.

Apparently the fix involves replacing the rear coil springs, and (!!) both the front and rear electronic dampers (I think that's the part he described). I am somewhat alarmed that basically the front and rear suspension has to be pulled apart.

Although the parts have been ordered, I am seriously considering what I am going to do with this car. I tracked the car for the first time a month ago, and I was planning to do a lot more of that. I am worried about driving a car which has had what seems to me to be very significant suspension work carried out.

Anyway, hope the above info re availability of parts is useful ......

Thanks for the good news Aussie F10M! Are they covered by warranty?
Also out of curiosity, which custom changes have you made to your car's suspension?

All under warranty.

And I have not made any changes to the stock suspension. Was waiting to hear how this fix was going to work. But really I am not a big mod kind of guy. Like some others on the forum I tend to think the stock look (and performance) are pretty good. All I have done to this car is swap out the stock bulbs for LED.

To be honest I am surprised that they are going to be tinkering with the front suspension as well.

I think BMW will send them only after someone complains, not a recall. It's admitted to be a 'comfort issue' so you may want to request them about this complaint specifically.

I guess my car will be in for at least a week now that I have this PITA fix to add to it. Oh well, at least I get to drive a 328i as a loaner.

Replacing them would be probably take no more than 1-2 days. For example replacing H&R springs takes a few hours in the hands of a competent technician at BMW service.

Luckily I don't have the clunking problem, but I'm curious if the part numbers have changed for the springs and the dampers? If not, your dealer may be just trying the replacement process to do his best for you, but has no clue if it will remedy the problem. Did your service advisor show you a bulletin from BMW stating this is the factory fix for your specific complaint?

Are you sure there is really a fix for the F10 M5 ?
So far there's no SIB for the F10 M5 from BMW NA ,there's only one for the F12 (6 series)

I have additional work that needs to be done by the dealer also that his technicians did on my 1200 service. They scraped the side skirt with one of the lift arms and it is minor, paint only. They also need to do a couple of other warranty items.

I saw the SIB about a year ago. Not sure why you would not have one yet in the US ?

If there's really SIB out I'd be interested in the number/info as it certainly does not exist for NA...

Rear clunking sound

Have only 600 miles on mine so far and have noticed what I think might be the same sound everyone has been talking about but wanted to ask. When I take off from a dead stop I hear what sounds like something in my trunk being thrown against the inside rear wall. Definitely a clunk..
