Tires look good! Is that a M5? Haven't seen those rear calipers on an M5 before.

The 20" MT's will grip, but it won't launch as well as on 19's. For normal stoplight fun they should work fine... but if you are really wanting to get a good launch at the track, you need 19's or 18's with a higher profile tire.
My best was 1.57 60-foot with a 2.5s 0-60 time on those. |

Since these will be for track use only, I agree it would make more sense to go with a 19" instead of the 20" to make sure I got the best grip. I may need to get two sets: One for track use with a 19" and another for weekend street-play with a 20". What wheel and tire size for a 19" would you recommend?

I used an OEM wheel rated for the weight. For the track, the flexing is not as critical with the higher tire (not that you want a flimsy wheel). For the street, a good tire that is load rated for the weight is critical.

Also, imho, while I agree that for straight line grip you want as much sidewall as possible to allow for flex and drivetrain shock at launch, after trying both MT DR 305/35 20 and 305/35 19, the 20s gave me better 60' times. I think the reason for this is that the 20s are taller, provide a slightly taller sidewall and longer contact patch. That said, if I were to use them as a daily street tire, I'd go with 19s to avoid the part throttle issues I experienced with the taller 20s. |
