Depreciation is a B**** 55k trade in quote

I was just quoted 55k trade in value for my 2014 comp pack M5 with 20k miles. I knew these things depreciated like a rock, but that was even surprising.

FACK!!!

I was offered like $52k for my 2013 with 30k miles. I laughed.

Someone posted this a few weeks back. Interesting stuff. 2014 wasn't that far behind.

you get ZERO credit at auction for options like CP on these cars. The volume is too low and BMW 5-series do drop like a rock. Trick is having a nicely maintained car that another enthusiast will pay top dollar for. If yours is absent the 'mods' and in great condition - leather, paint, ... sell it on your own. BMW does need to do a better job propping the 'used' market up through their CPO segment. Auction on late model cars (vs. collector cars) is synonymous with 'rape, pillage & plunder'.

Sounds low unless it has had a lot of bodywork.

No, it's accident free with brand new tires. Granted it was just a preliminary quote from the Porsche dealer towards a 991 GTS.

Trade in value is highly problematic. When I sold my 2013 M5 I beat trade in by 20,000 dollars.

If it's fully loaded, don't settle for less than $60k trade.

Newbie here with my first post...why such low trade values? Yet the flip side is, isn't that how it always works with the dealers?!

Don't trade it in. A dealer will easily mark it up 30k. Remember all of their used cars are owned by old ladies or so they always say.

Wow ........I sold my 2013 last August when I had my dealer price it out I got 60k. He said if I kept it another year it would be 50k?? Luxury sedans are hard to move look at the RS7 inventory pilling up. My car sat on the lot for a few months, and they had to put on new tires and CPO they may have broke even on the sale.

My options were:
HUD
20" wheels
Full leather

Don't too much care for soft close doors, and upgrades on music don't spend a lot of time in the car as you can tell by my miles in three years. Auctions are driving the prices down along with inventory. Happy I sold when I did, but I don't buy cars with fear of depreciation in most cases.

Mine sat on the lot for 9 months. The dealer didn't sell to actions. He was excited and made me a hell of a deal at the time

I traded my 15 CP with 3500 miles for $88K, Sticker was $117 I think. Bought it for $103,600. It sat on the dealer lot for few weeks then made it's way to Texas. Last I saw it listed for $82k, it finally sold but not sure for how much.

Second hand market for an M5 is pretty weak. Dealership trade values are low bc they usually sell close to that price and these cars are sitting. The 13's should drop under 50k by winter time IMO.

Two things, the 2014 production numbers seems low. You should be able to fetch more money selling privately. I know I wanted a 14 CP when I was looking and I could not find any in good condition.

Second, if you are trading in, you have to calculate the tax savings. You could save as much as 5k in tax due to trade in so consider that when selling privately.
