Rust

I can't believe that amount of rust that is coming of my front discs. The front wheels look like somebody's sprinkled them with gold glitter.

Never had this on my last 2 M3's.

Is this normal ?

lots of water around at the moment. I noticed it also on mine, iirc it was pretty much the same when I got my M3.

Thanks for replying Neil. She goes in tomorrow for her service, so I will mention it. I looked at the wheels tonight after she had been sat for a few days, and the amount powered rust visible on the black rims was a concern.

Anyways....the fun starts tomorrow. Let me have this pics/link to those side gills.

When is yours in for the service mate

is where i'm getting mine.

i just hit 1000 miles so will book it in next week - car is going great though. I am not worried about the rust, doesn't seem any more excessive than the previous M5.

I get quite a bit of rust on the rotors, when just washed, then put away in the garage. Surprisingly though, i dont seem to have many problems with the brake pads sticking to the rotors, after putting away, after washing, then not using for a while, like some other cars ive had. The rusty powder does annoy me, as it blights my lovely clean shiny rims. Stiggs, hope the service goes well, and watch what you are doing, if you are keeping your foot in all the way, in this damp wet weather, im not joking either, this machine is an evil beast .

After I wash my car I back up down the street with the brake slightly applied. Then I do the same thing going forward. Just enough to clear the rust from the rotors and pads.

If I don't do that and leave the car sitting for maybe a day.. they will stick and require. 2k revs to break free.

Even worse.. if you drive away and end up on the highway or even a street at speed and need to slow down.. not fun. Happened to me once. Made sure it would never happen again.

It seems to be coming from behind the discs. The rims just seem full of rust powder.

Thanks for the advice re driving...noted mate
