Fake exhaust sound

I just added the bmw performance exhaust and am trying to differentiate the real exhaust note from the fake piped in noise I have read about. If my b & o stereo is off does the fake sound still play or only if the stereo is on. Do the 2014 models still have the fake sound? Thx

Plays all the time. You can turn it off via coding or by disconnecting some wires in the trunk.

I noticed a deeper sound after turning the active sound off.

Active sound is so subtle in the M5, who cares. Just leave it.

The M3/M4 is a totally different story.
