Snow Tires on a 2012 M5

Just bought a Dinan stage 2 tuned M5, and yes I know its a little early in the season, but thinking about driving it through the winter.

Can you get 19s over the steel brakes or are we limited to 20" packages only?

Also how is a tuned M5 in the snow? The car apparently has about 693hp with this tune, and even in the dry when I give it 50% or more throttle the traction control is kicking in.

thx

BTW anyone in the GTA have a set of 20" factory wheels they want to sell, the car is on Dinan 20" lightweights and I dont really want to run those in the snow.

Curious to hear how this goes. I'm moving to Toronto next month and am still debating selling the m5. Seems way too big to have there.

The 19" 345m's work well. There's a cheap set listed here with new winters and a set of rims only.

I use those on my treks from vancouver to whistler and they work great. Just have to be gentle with the throttle.

Were the 345m wheels standard in the US and Canada? I've never seen an M5 here on our streets in Toronto with anything smaller than the 20s

Its never too late to plan for winter tires. I agree with the post saying go with 19s. look at style 345M. they would be cheaper and easier on potholes that gets created during winter time. I guess with anything rear wheel drive, it will be based on traction and the mastering of fearing the throttle to get yourself in and out of a messy situation.

Go aftermarket 19" and narrow - its the width or lack of that makes the difference. May 8" wheels all round and matching narrow tyres. The 10" rears are just too wide.

I have used Pirelli Sottozero's on my Porsches and BMW E60 M5 with great results.

I have a set of the stock 19s for sale with Sottozeros.
I used them as my winter set and yes they do fit over the steel brakes without any issues.
They are fitted with a slightly narrower tire 255/285 for all the reason stated earlier in the thread. I found the 255/285 a good compromise vs going down to 255 all around.

PM me if interested. I can also provide better pictures. http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1292182

Problem with aftermarket is that most 19's won't clear our massive calipers and discs.
