Trade 535 For M5

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Thinking about trading my 2011 535 lease for 2013 or 14 M5 finance. think its worth it as i am sure i will be upside down since i have a year and a half left on the lease. should i trade it anyway or just wait to the end? opinions please

Wait until the end. Usually in a lease you end up significantly upside down. Just my opinion.

+1. Looking at your stable, you have plenty of nice rides to keep you happy for another 18 months.

I'll provide an observation for the opposite just for discussion purposes. Maybe you consider pulling the trigger prior to the end of the lease. Here's why:

1. I'm assuming by "upside down" in a lease you mean that you're running over on the miles. No matter what you will need to make the remaining lease payments, but by trading in early you avoid the extra charges for the excess milage.

2. The downside to turning the car in early is time value of money - you're making all the lease payments immediately instead of over time. However if your dealer will roll the remaining lease payments into the new financing, then you take 1 to 2 years of lease payments and stretch them out over the life of the financing (4 to 6 years?).

So I would say drive the 535 up to the milage you purchased under the lease and then turn it and roll the remaining payments into the financing of the new M5. Thoughts?

don't do it. There are issues with the M5 as is. Once your lease is up, hopefully everything will be sorted out with the car.

Don't do it...and once the lease is up, get a Panamera GTS. The new M5 is admittedly nothing great to look at cosmetically, and is already having mechanical issues? good lord

Ummmm, a bad batch of oil pumps that are being replaced. What are the other mechanicals issues? I drove my car in Europe for many miles like others on this board. Unreal how people on this board pile on for a car they have not driven or own.

+1. I put 1900 miles on the so called 'bad pump' with no issues. BMW being safe instead of sorry is being frowned upon? Only a Porsche fan lol. Smh.

Love both beemers and P-cars...have been fortunate to own both, and have a '11 M3 vert now. Was so looking forward to the new M5, but just so let down on the styling ques. To anyone other than the folks on this board, it looks exactly (and sadly) like a 5 series...plain jane. I'm simply bummed is all. Likely will switch t0 P-car for this next lease is all I was implying. Enjoy in safety

Last I checked they all looked like a 5 series if I'm not mistaken. Even the famous E39.

Since when has the M5 looked substantially different from the 5 series? The whole point of the car is understated sporty looks. It's not supposed to be flamboyant. The E28 and E34 looked almost exactly like their 5 series counterparts. E39 540i M Sport and E39 M5 looked exactly the same apart from the side mirrors and quad tips. Same with the E60 M5 and 5 series M sport. Not sure what you were expecting.

Well, enough was enough in my opinion, and with all of the tremendous competition out there in this "sport sedan" category, I was hoping for something distinguishable. I guess that is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream.....different strokes for different folks.

No point going from a 5 to a 5. Finish the lease. Then get into an M4 and come back to the M5 after.

I'm doing this in an odd way myself, my wife has a 535i that's the almost the same color as the new m5 on the way. I will get her to like it, allow me to turn in her car and I will get the convertible m3

The m5 will be a 6MT, she will have to get used to it!

Research what the 535 is worth. Maybe the dealership can buy you out free and clear. I've done it.
