MDM makes quite the difference.
So in my 13 M5 I foolishly activated my MDM in the rain while turning onto a bridge and somehow didn't die while impressing my friend who was behind me in his vantage S thinking I was some driving savant that pulled some insane drift. A second time, my best friend bought a 14 M5 to match my 13 and he decides to use mine when he tied off the baffles to make the exhaust slightly louder and on this little test drive he deactivates the DTC all the way (against my wishes that assclown) and decides to drift my car, not his mind you, and somehow we didn't crash and I recovered and kicked him out of the front seat.
For my 14 M5 with the Comp Pack, since March when I got it, I had not used MDM once. Yesterday I said what the hell and from second gear it felt like 100 more ponies just came out of nowhere. I thought it may have been good grip but something was very different about the power band. I did notice that MDM on my previous car did give me a bit more get up from lower speeds, but this felt pretty intense. Anyone feel something similar? I also saw a youtube video with that Matt Farah guy driving the M4 with an M driving instructor and once he put on MDM he said that the car became much faster. I think there is more than just traction to this setting but I'd like to know more. THANKS! |

MDM has absolutely no impact on the amount of power the car produces.
If it did, it would be common knowledge and used by BMW as a marketing tool.

I think he means that it allows the use of the horsepower better by not having the nannies kick in so often and so quickly.

This is true... Though.... With the DSC activated and working...it does reduce power to the wheels to reduce/stop wheel spin. Which could be perceived as lower power output from the engine while that is happening.

+1 No power increase but if your lighting up the rear wheels then it will as it turns off the traction control to the point it senses your about to spin or lose control. Anti-embarrassment mode

Thank you! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything. I think I'll keep the traction control on all the way unless I'm in a straight line lol.

I almost wrecked the car a couple of times one time was unknowingly and another was on purpose but no more MDM or DSC off for me.
This car sure needs a better driver than my humble self |

I would really like to go to the M driving school eventually to experience the full potential of these monsters without endangering myself or others. There's way too much room for error with how much power they have, and when the Comp Pack is supposed to reduce the MDM further I thought well, I'll just enjoy the added stiffness and power bump.

Exactly, and also like I had said, there may have been decent traction on with the road I was on where I was lucky enough not to have the tires lose too much grip, but damn did it feel intense. Usually the DTC kicks in almost every time I give it some juice if I'm under 50mph. Still wont be driving with MDM though, not confident enough in my skills.
