about to purchase my first M5

Hi everyone,

i am just about to start my M5 journey, but i have one question about the car i am about to purchase.

The car: 2012, 27,000 miles, FBMWFSH, Monte Carlo Blue, BMW extended warranty etc.

The car has been sitting for 2 months (the owner was abroad). The selling garage (who have been excellent to deal with) have had BMW do a major service, new brakes all round and extended the BMW warranty.

QUESTION: do i need to worry about the car not been driven for 2 months?

Question: on the test drive, what are the main things i need to look out for?

really appreciate your help, and hopefully i will be a family member soon :-)

its still somewhat new i wouldn't worry, make sure you WARM the car up to TEMP of Engine before you start punching it, so that it gets lubricated on all the seals, mind you all the OILS and lubricants are all at the buttons so drive easy for a few miles also.

Things to check

First, make sure the car had its 1200 mile service at around the correct mileage....missing or very late service affects the price

Make sure tyres have plenty of tread and even wear....the tyres are quite expensive and quite hard to get hold of

Tap the gas pedal at idle to make sure the car moves forward slowly and evenly at walking pace

Try the car in reverse....check for any juddering of the clutch

Check steering alignment, make sure the wheel is centre when on a flat straight road with minimal camber....check that the steering re-centres itself nicely after making a turn

Find some speed bumps....the suspension should not make any strange clunking noises

Check panel gaps....they should all be uniform

Visually check all radiators....there should not be any damage

Check SW revision, negotiate an update

Thank you everyone.

Regarding the SW version.... How do I check what it is? And what should it be?

Thanks

Test the brakes and take it up to highway speeds to see if there is any substantial steering wheel vibration.

Good luck, the car is amazing.
