Update on my M5- fuel pump issue

So I finally heard back from service department.

Both high pressure fuel pump needs to be replaced. Low fuel pressure sensor needs to be replaced.

The engine is not getting enough fuel hence causing engine too die after start.

Is your car the one that was hit at the dealership?

It was hit at VDC.

I am very concerned at the fuel pump.

The pump failed with tank 2/3 full. I was backing up out of parking space when it failed.

But some of this is my fault. That morning before I went out to get lunch. I noticed idle was jumping up and down. I had similar issue with the 135i fuel pump before it died.

I should have noticed that as fuel pump issue.

I hope so too.

I am a little pissed at BMW service now.

The fuel pumps will take 7-10 days to arrive. So I am not going to get my car back before my business trip on sunday. BMW wants their loaner back before i take off. I don't understand what is the big rush to get loaner back.

Its not my problem the car died. Why can't i keep the loaner until i return on 3/4. Annoyed.

I paid for the M5 not a 328i. I have been driving 328i for about a month in total now. Frustrating.

I think i pissed my car off by taking it to Porsche dealership.

It's ok. Things happen.

This is the first BMW after many other BMW that gave me trouble. Still a loyal BMW owner.

I feel your frustrations Jerry.

At around 950 miles a few days ago, my M5 told me to put a quart of engine oil in. So I go to East Bay BMW and for 40 minutes, the service advisor (not alan) couldn't figure out that all I needed was a quarter of engine oil.

I just called Alan directly two days ago and scheduled my break in service for upcoming Saturday. Hope that works out....

Called yesterday to get a loaner and some admin told me she couldn't gurantee a BMW loaner. I'm over here thinking the same thing as you. I didn't buy a 328i. Sorry if this sounds too spoiled but I think if I bought a M5, I should get a loaner that is comparable. Maybe I'll get a prius (yea!)

I have 3300 miles on my M5. Two times I have gotten the low oil warning and had to take it into the dealer. Dealer told me that with such a large engine that it sucks oil until you hit 5K miles...

Ok so im officially confused. Is the oil pump still an issue? Im assuming your car was not involved in the campaign was it? Is this an isolated incident since the campaign?

Not true. I'm over 7,000 miles and I got the low oil warning again last night. I've already filled it up once. Although, I have been driving my F10 very hard over the past few months. It probably consumes more oil when you push the engine hard often. This reminds me, I should take a trip to Autozone after work today.

This is a new problem.

Its the high pressure fuel pumps that failed. Nothing to do with engine oil pump.

My engine is not getting fuel.

Some people are like that only, mean.
This is not your fault that the part is not in stock. They should suck it up and respect your obligations at work. Make sure you give your reviews when you get that email after service.
I believe it depends on the dealership management.
The dealership in my city in south Jersey is really good. I get loaner/rental even for non-scheduled work, no questions asked.
Good luck.

I got to give BMW East Bay kudos.

They stepped up nicely.

So-
1. They will help me to get to the airport tomorrow night.

2. Also arrange pick up for me on 3/4 when I return.

3. They even have BMW comp me on my loss.

Thank you so much. I was not expect three. I just need a ride both way so I have means to get around because my wife is out travelling as well.

Yeah!!!!!

Hi Josh

Nice to run into you today too.

I will give either of them a call on Monday.

I am on plane going to HKG now.

Full flight with several kids in business class. Going to be a painful flight. Screaming kids. Urghh
