ECU Tune

Are they legit? They are claiming 785hp with 709lbs of tq. They say its not a piggyback.

So it's pretty much exactly like the Switzer and JB tuning piggyback modules.

Too many clowns out there trying to make a quick buck off of fools who don't know anything about engineering with too much money. No offense to Switzer or JB Tuning, as I know they try hard to make a quality product, but the M5 community needs to wake up and realize they need to wait for a REAL complete Remap reflash of the entire ECU/DME programming to come out, like what ESS has been working on for the better part of a year now. Just wait people, don't waste your money.

This explains pretty good how a piggyback operates and it's limits...

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post8992897

And this part of ETG's FAQ worries me a bit...

Quote:
Obvious signs of amateur workmanship can be gleaned by asking how many car manufacturers a shop covers. If the shop is capable of tuning one type of car, logic follows that he should be able to tune any car. Software is software after all. Beware of those touting allegiance to one particular manufacturer.
I'm not a tuner, but that logic doesn't seem logic to me. Unless you rely on a crude piggyback that is universal for all cars. "Universal" here meaning that it's not really suited to any car...

Loads of diesel tunes here in Europe use these universal piggyback where the only difference between them is the connectors that is changed for different car manufacturers.

IMHO you should be sceptical to the tuners that have tons of models on their list, especially if they also are out with the "tune" quite soon after the release of a new car model. A real tune takes some R&D, it's a lot more involved than just plugging your generic piggyback module on the car.

Don't waste your time by even checking their website. Singh have always claimed some big things without any proof.

Sorry guys, something i still cant quite understand n i hav been studying ECU tune topics in this forum for quite some times now. I can undefstand for smaller cmpanies to risk their brands for quick money, but what abt. AC Schzitner, Hartge, Eurocharged, all these big brands are claiming they hav an ECU tune which can increase power as well as remove speed limiter??!!

How much of these are real?? I m seriously considering Eurocharged to remove speed limiter, wonder if any one has tried it and can give some lights pls.

Hartge and AC Schnitzer use a piggyback and I'm pretty sure they don't claim any removal of speed limiter. Piggybacks do increase power, but are more crude and more limited than a "real" tune.

Just be patient they are coming. Word is Dinan is just waiting for finishing touches. My guess is more to follow soon.

Latest Audi RS6/RS7 has Abt and MTM and probably a few others, and as far as I know all of those are piggyback tunes...

And there are quite a few piggybacks for the M5 as well. Hartge, AC Schnitzer, Switzer etc. And then there are the G-Power and Manhart 750hp tunes combining the press tune and a boost controller (piggyback).

AMG seems to be easier to access for tuners (I don't follow that scene so don't know whether it's flash tunes or piggybacks).
