First Road Trip...
On Friday my wife and I took our first road trip in the M5. I had about 950 miles on the car when we left Phoenix and headed to Las Vegas (my service advisor said to wait until I came back for the 1200 mile service appointment).
All I can really say about the car is OH MY GOD! The power never seems to end. I knew that it was going to be faster than my 2011 M3, but I had no idea how hard it would pull, especially at highway speeds. The seats were extremely comfortable and I really loved how mild mannered the car could be when I wasn't pushing the limits. A few observations from the road...
As for fuel mileage, I was expecting it to be a little bit better. I averaged 19mpg on the way to Vegas and 18mpg on the way back. I am hoping that the highway mileage improves as the engine continues to break in. Just dropped the car off this morning for the 1200 mile service and figure the timing is great. They can give it a thorough wash to remove all the bugs from the front end of the car!

Did the car get a lot if attention in Vegas? Or are you overshadowed by too many super cars and limos for people to notice the beast?

I saw a couple of 458s, but The Strip really isn't a place for car spotting. Too many other things are going on.

She knows I'm a total car freak. She used to come out to the track with me every once and a while when I was instructing. I'd give her rides and she would say "Eh, I see why you like it, but it doesn't do anything for me". She's the perfect passenger. Casually and comfortably reading Facebook while I'm hauling ass! At the end of one long straight away (with not a single other car on the road) I asked if she knew how fast we had just gone. She said, nope. I told her and she said, "Oh, okay. It didn't feel like it."

First Congrats on your new purchase. 2nd, from your post I take it you had alittle fun along the way with those three cars? Just so you know, the M5 can also beat a z06 also. It will get the jump, but the 5 will pull hard on it.

Yup drove mine today too. I tend to forget how retarded fast this car really is. At one point I downshifted from 4th to 3rd, zero turbo lag, straightpipes roaring, ozone layer depleting, 130mph and all I could immediately think to myself was that there is just NO FUCKING WAY an M4 is going to be as fast as this thing is. LOL!
What happened between my right foot, my brain and all 5 of my senses, still leaves me confused as to how the F10 M5 is able to go that fast. I don't even have a tune...yet.

My buddy just sent me a text this morning saying that the police are now using planes to patrol the stretch of US 93 that goes from Phoenix to Las Vegas. Apparently they issued 64 tickets in a 4 hour time span on Sunday afternoon (the day I was driving that stretch back home). Average speed on that stretch of road is 86mph (speed limit is 65). The problem is that a lot of it is 2 lanes, so everyone is speeding and jockeying for position for when the next passing zone comes up to get around the semis and slow drivers. Then, when you finally do the the mile long passing zone, everyone stays left because they want to pass. Luckily, the M5 has plenty of power to zip up the right side (which is wide open) and get in front of the first car.

Did you take any pics from your road trip?
I love taking the F10 on road trips. I never did that with my e60.
