My First Car (328i V. 335i)

Hello everyone, I am 15, soon to be 16, and I am faced with a dilemma. I have to make the choice of whether I want a loaded 335i with almost everything you can imagine, or a 328i that would be adequate for me. I know what most of you BMW enthusiasts are thinking, "Take the 335I!". I understand that it is more powerful and, in a sense, more fun to drive. However, as a 15 year old, the biggest question is whether it is economically feasible. This includes repairs, insurance, etc... I consider myself a mechanically skilled individual. Give me a service manual and I can figure it out. Anyways, I would love to hear your opinions on both cars!

Regards, Jokerone

P.S Here are the links to the cars (details)

Dude you're 15 looking at cars that originally sell between $40-$60k, so is it economically feasible? Oh fuck yea it is!!

Based on your age and assuming you don't have any driving experience, I would say neither. Get a cheaper, slower FWD used car for a year or two until you have enough experience, then move on to a RWD platform (BMW) once you are more comfortable behind the wheel.

Upsides are: cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, cheaper insurance, and if you crash it it's not a big loss.

Downside is you may not get as much pussy if you drive a POS...

Drive that bad boy till the turbos fall off then start meth lab, cook meth, sell it, get turbos replaced; rinse and repeat. Gettin paid and haullin ass, that's what it's all about.

Thanks for the quick response! I understand your views on gaining experience before I move on to such an expensive car. However, it's not as if i'm going into this completely inexperienced. I have been driving with my dad since I was 10 and have had no problems. In my opinion, its completely dependent on how mature the individual is. I'm not wanting one of the two cars in order to show off (i.e. drive recklessly or push car past its limits), I simply enjoy nice things.

Hello everyone, I am 30, soon to be 31, and I am faced with a dilemma. I have to make the choice of whether I want a loaded 2015 BMW M3 with almost everything you can imagine, or a BMW 320i that would be adequate for me. I know what most of you enthusiasts are thinking, "Take the M3!". I understand that it is more powerful and, in a sense, more fun to drive. However, as a 30 year old, the biggest question is whether it is economically feasible.

I simply enjoy nice things ...... that mommy and daddy buy me

If they are flipping the bill just get the 335i, rack up a bunch of speeding tickets, smash it off the curb a few times and destroy your insurance rates until your 30. They are paying for it right so who cares?

If you just like a nice looking car and don't care about going fast and prioritize aesthetics over performance, then a 328 should be plenty enough for you. Put some nice rims, lower it and nice bumper and it'll look just as good as a 335i.

I'm the opposite, I like going fast so I spend all my money on performance mods and still rock the stock rims

As for the car, yes, my parents are paying for it. This does not mean I am spoiled. I work my ass off and maintain all A's in all AP classes and am deeply involved in extracurriculars. Mommy and daddy are not paying for the insurance, I am. I have a job and work hard for the money I make. Just because a car has the ability for go fast, does not mean I will abuse the power it holds.

IMO take the 320i because that is what I drive so you should drive it too. Why would you want a fast car like an M3? So pointless and not fun at all.

The M3 is not fun at all. Get the 320i. It's much funner to drive a slow car fast then a fast car slow

So glad my parents didn't buy my first car for me.

But I'd say have them buy you a used BMW like 330i

Then sit back, play video games, spank it 4,5 times a day.

Your 15yrs old. You'll get bored of any car you finally decide on.

If your parent will buy it for you, of course its the 335i.

335i's insurance will be higher of course. Repair and maintenance are the same, except 335i's turbos will eventually cause problems.
