To Extend or not to extend maintenance...

Did anyone pay for extended maintenance once your factory was out?

My factory maintenance/warranty are ending soon. I'm guessing the only real "value" is for replacement of brakes. My M5 is in for a new recall (B630717) and they are going to check to see what's left on my brakes. I suspect I might get the either the front or rear covered, but not both under the factory plan. If it looks like I need new brakes in the next year, I think it might be a no brainer.

12 month/24k is MSRP $1700
24 month/50k is MSRP $3495

Is this a negotiable price item? Also, are they refundable or transferable?

Non refundable but will transfer. Worth is subjective. Worth it to me as I replaced some items under warrantee. Price no negotiation. BMW prices same everywhere

If you remove something out you have to replace it. That's what I'm talking about. I've found that every sa will treat you different. I'm good with mine.

Gotcha. Just confirming you weren't mistaking extending maintenance for extended warranty

What is that recall you mentioned?

I will admit that when I bought mine 6 weeks ago, the extended maintenance plan that the original owner purchased helped me to decide between this one and a similar car. Happy to have the additional help. Also have coverage for wheel road rash!

The recall is brand new. My SA said I was the first she's seen it pop up for. She said it has something to do with the rear reflectors not meeting some federal standard and needing to be replaced. She didn't have a whole of details and didn't even know if she has the parts.

Once I know more, I'll update this post. In the meantime I got a 2017 X5 as a loaner. It's pretty sweet. The new iDrive system is amazingly fast and Apple car play is pretty useful.

Did you pay $3400 or the msrp of $3495? An earlier post said this was not a negotiable priced item. I know when when you buy a new car, the extended warranty is absolutely negotiable though...

I'm lucky and my first owner paid for an extra 50k miles so I have until 2020 and 100k. I would have bought it anyways if it didn't come with the car, especially since it covers brakes

No I didn't buy the maintenance part of it as I usually do my own. Cheaper in the long run if you don't buy it. At least in my case

I asked for best price and the finance guy said $3400----originally quoted $3495--- never hurts to ask and hey $95 is $95......

Agreed.

On the Recall Front, my SA told me it's literally to replace the rear reflectors. It came out like 2 days ago and she doesn't even know when the parts come in.

Do they break or something? Nothing has happen to my rear reflectors since dec 2012 and I'm at 102,500 miles.

She didn't have the full details but she said it sounds like they don't reflect enough. She said the recall was only a few days old and that parts and directions weren't even out yet. She said she'd call me when they come in.

I got the 6-year extended maintenance option when I first got my car. The car is only one year out of the standard maintenance timeframe, and it has already paid off for me. M maintenance is pricey, I personally think its worth it if you have the extra cash to do it. If not, it's not the end of the world because in the end it really is a gamble.

I'd say really depends on your current mileage and what maintenance has been done to the car thus far. I just purchased a certified '13 with 46k miles and added the 2 year maintenance on there because neither front or rear brakes have been done. At 60k miles these cars require a fairly extensive service. Since I daily drive my car, it was a no brainer.
