M5 at VIR

It's been quite a while since I've posted, and at the 3 year mark, I'm looking at its replacement, an M550i.

So for a swan song, I've done track days at VIR and NOLA Motorsports Park (O'fest). Here's a few laps chasing a fast friend in an M2 at VIR, Full track. He took off fast with a clear track, and I could never get close to him. I set a personal best at 2:21 and he was about 2 secs or more a lap faster!

Your saying you are going to replace the m5 w a m550. My friend has one. It's nice. But going from fast to slow which it's what it will be. I'm guessing you'll be craving for that power right after you line up w another M. But everyone has their reasons and I'm sure yours is a good one after 3 years of ownership.

More like going from fast to "almost as fast" and probably quicker off the line.
80% of my driving is Charlotte city traffic. Probably 10% long trips, 5% mountains & twisties, and < 5% on track where I'd use the difference.

How did the brakes hold up after a few laps? VIR is a beast!

Very good! Only minor fade on last laps at the end of the day. I did have SRF brake fluid put in to reduce the chance of fade. Also an issue with a rear caliper forced new rear pads (left and right) but the fronts were originals with 7-8 track days on them. I think that's why the brakes weren't quite as fade free as the first year's track days.

Richard, I'm also in Charlotte. What about a M6GC, I just purchased one and when you pair it with comp package and CCBs, it's an amazing vehicle.

No question on the M6GC being amazing. I've driven one, on CotA at that!
However the G30 platform has new/better tech and would cost less, even the new M5 when comparably equipped.

I've always wanted to take the M5 to VIR.

Was this an open track day or a cca event? What was the Red flag for? Hopefully nothing serious.

This was the fall Tarheel CCA event. The red flag was for a car that spun off and was smoking a bit. I think it and the driver were OK.
