DCT Clutch Replacement Quote

Hi guys,

I have a stock M5 CP with a DCT. I'm just over the 52k mark and noticing my clutch is slipping in 6 above 3/4k rpms under heavy load. The dealership quoted me $8000 to replace the clutches. This sounds crazy since the stock clutch assembly (basket and clutches) online average $2500. From what I can tell the labor its ~10 hours.

Is the dealer way over priced or is this what I should expect as a replacement cost? I tried calling some indy's here in Chicago, but they didn't have time to quote. Also if anyone knows a reputable indy in Chicago i'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Nope. I mentioned stock up above. By that I mean exactly how it came from the motherland. No suspension mods, piggybacks or flashes.

See it now, I missed that detail. I recall my indy mechanic quoting me 10 hours of labor for this job if I decided to go the SSP clutch route in the future. At $150 an hour that comes to maybe 1800 at the most if you factor in fluids. SSP drop in 900lb ft clutches are around 2600, and ECS sells the stock replacement clutch pack for 2700.

Yes, mine was replaced with a stock DCT unit when it was under factory warranty. You might as well upgrade to SSP clutches for future longevity. Bavarian Motors or Wizard Werks in Chicago. My Indy shop is located in Louisville, KY, 5 hours South of you.

Thanks. Wizard Werks quoted $1300 in labor. Much more reasonable. Except for the clutch kit (tel:28407842841) what other replacement parts do I need?

I would push for a goodwill fix by BMW. These issues are so rare and cars are still new they'll cover most of the cost

BMW would not goodwill. I am thinking SSP. I spoke with the owner the other day and he was very informative.
