Catless Downpipes with 200 cel magnaflow cats in Section 1?
Just had a set of RPi Catless Downpipes installed last week. So far i love the turbo spool, performance and sound, but cant get over the smell! Dont mind the CEL either.
Was thinking of having a shop put in a set of Magnaflow 200 cell cats in section 1 right after the downpipes to help tone down the sound slightly, but also help get rid of the smell. Essentially, I'd like to replicate this without having to pay 4k! http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-18...port-cats.aspx Here are the cats im thinking of getting. Thoughts on the whole idea? http://www.hottexhaust.com/Magnaflow_59906 |

Interesting idea. I'm going to be gutting my factory cats soon, but I'm still leary about how it'll smell. I think I read somewhere that race cats only added like 1% flow restrictions, so for $200 and some labor, you might have found the best of both worlds.

I bought the mid pipe section with 200 cell cats from Supersprint. I need to find my bill, cause as I recall I think that section 1 I bought direct from SS was only around 2K, two years ago. Pretty sure I didn't pay that much.

Go for it, you will have very small horsepower losses, if any at all with high flow cats. They clean up the smell really well once they are heated up fully. I recommend HJS, but you pay a pretty penny for them (made in Germany).
Magnaflows cats are good as well and make up more than half of their sales. Despite their name being associated with high performance mufflers. |

I also have catless downpipes and am tired of the smell, but don't want to spend $3k on another set of high flow cat downpipes. The magnaflow cats could be a good idea. I have akra exhaust though, not sure if it would be a good idea to cut into that system to put cats on. I guess if I don't plan on ever selling the akra, it doesn't really matter.

Will do :-) Here's the thread with pics and I chased down the OP to make sure to get a follow up reply afterwards since he never finished his own thread. Having seen the outlet of the turbos, it's a small outlet filling a large cavity no matter what, so as I've said on other threads before...if free is a measly 10hp difference over spending $1600, I'm all in. If anything I'll wait a few years until catless downpipes lose the ///M tax and become realistically priced, maybe then I'll install a brand name set to see the differences, if any.
