Back with Audi >>> 2017 R8 V10 Suzuka Gray- New Wheels Page 2!!

ADD of car ownership has yet to subside and compared to the Lambo (just was too wild and not functional) its the better car for me. I took a few test drives of the new R8 and decided to grab one. Its a non plus; yes I went this way for a few reasons. I have already tuned it to 60 more whp which is about 75 bhp and the car already is rated above the 540 bhp from the factory; so right there the gap is covered and passed. I also get the magnetic shocks vs the fixed ones in the Plus. That's not a huge deal but the MagRide is very very comfortable and flat. While I like the wing and the CCB's- they are not necessary and the factory pricing I get made it a huge swing. So that's it, I have this car now and its nice to be in a NA V10 car that I will use more frequently. Obviously there are others out there: Turbo S, 570S, and a few more but I already have a Turbo S modded and the McLaren still hasn't got to me but I'm sure it will

Anyways this car is in Suzuka Gray which is hard to discern in the pics but at night it really darkens up. Its a nice change to my whites that I have. The steering and suspension are awesome along with the grip and chassis feel. I love the interior and the MMI system isn't all too bad with the giant TFT screen. Its just a great overall car with speed, awd, handling, v10 sound, and a good cockpit. The DSG is so smooth and the car is just flat out easy to drive. Its a very confident inspiring car in the right moments and 160+ mph comes easy (especially with the tune). It might feel just a slight bit faster down low than the Huracan but the H car is lighter and can pull better up top but its a driver's race. I might still mod it via lowering, exhaust (more V10 song is never bad), but for now its stock which might concern me LOL.

Here is the top gear review of the V10, V10 Plus, and the spyder where they had similar performance results:

I have a manufacturer deal so its not for the general public- lets just say I was circa 30k under the plus and it just wasnt worth the bump since I dont keep cars too long.

Those are great stock wheels and the diamond stitch seats are great too. I don't like what they have done to the shape so much but the sound has to be great and that color combo is really nice. The problem with the metal brakes is cleaning the dust off those beautiful wheels but I guess you let someone else deal with that anyway.

Very true--- its not like Im going to pour on the miles with this car either, maybe 3 to 4k a year so Ill have it cleaned like my others on a regular basis. But I do like CCB's.

Beautiful car. You must have some time in the morning deciding which car to drive!! Terrible problem to have. I'd hate to start my day that way. Lol.

Great purchase Vic, I have been looking at an R8 to replace my RS6, just waiting to see the release date of the V10+ spyder before pulling the trigger. I had a demo car for a weekend (V10+ coupe) and the engine and gearbox sold it for me. I have been running turbo cars since I sold my E60 M5 in 2011 and the N/A motor in the R8 is such a welcome change, I had forgotten how great a high-reving N/A engine makes the driving experience. Enjoy!

Thanks Mate, I was interested in the non plus Spyder (I think the lines of the car without the wing are strong) but there are no deals right now stateside as it just came out.

All day better, a little write up I did at the R8 boards:

Quote:
The Huracan is a beast- loud and wild looking and driving. I have the race exhaust on it and its just full of burbles and pops. The chassis feels big though and the R8 drives easier IMHO. The H car tends to understeer more than the Audi (I have dynamic steering) and both are very planted at speed in fast bends and sharp turns (Mag ride on both) The ability to see out of the cabin is difficult at times and the rear window is basically useless in the Huracan; I never was comfortable for a long drive. Both cars have the same engine but thats about it for me, the interior of the Audi is nicer and more user friendly. Its easier to get in and out of the car and just a more functional car for my needs. The Huracan is an "event" car wherever it goes; its a "look at me car" and gathers almost too much attention. I often didnt take it places like the mall or grocery store cause it was just easier to get in the AMG GTS or Turbo S along with parking. Obviously this is all my opinion as an owner of both. I do feel the Huracan is slightly faster up top and that could be derived from the lower weight. But the Audi is so easy to drive, the DSG in dynamic is smooth and even the kickdowns are more fluid. The Audi is the perfect blend of super car performance and sound coupled with a luxury interior.

That pretty much answers it Vic

Congrats Vic...
I'm assuming it has the same engine your Huracan has. Am I right?
If it's the case how you do feel this engine works on each one?
And most probably everybody wants you to compare R8 with AMG GTS... well I'm the first one to ask

Same engine but since its not a "plus" its detuned from the factory and then I went to VF to get it right back to the "plus" level (actually a little higher per their dyno charts).

This car is everything the GTS isnt: high reving, high tone pitch exhaust, awd, lower tq, v10 n/a screamer. The GTS is the: tq monster, growler exhaust, twin turbo rwd angry beast that can burn tires. They really compliment each other. Having taken both cars over 160 mph Ill say that the R8 is faster (tuned) and quicker but might not be as quick in those immediate lane change accleration(s) as the tq does need a higher rpm level. The hp/tq chart is much steeper in its climb than the GTS and it has more drive train loss due to AWD. So its a toss up for me early as to whats better. I think the GTS has the louder exhaust right now since the R8 is stock- the Plus gets a little louder exhaust aka sport but its hard to tell. Again, both are great cars with different purposes IMHO.

here is a stock non plus exhaust rev video but it doesnt tell the sound while running above 6k rpms and moving on the road (high F1 sound)

Goddamn Vic, she is gorgeous!!

I have always thought that Audi USA are stupid not to offer the MRCs on the Plus version since in the ROW you can get the option. Interestingly, either CAR or EVO, (I can't remember which), have tested the non-Plus version to be just as quick as the Plus; at least until you reach silly speeds iirc.

Well done old friend. Keep the reviews coming as you get a few more miles on her. BTW, the VF tune: picked up by Audi during service?
