That's exactly why I scrambled to get another one ordered after my '11 was totaled. If my car is going to have turbos, it's going to have a nissan or porsche badge on it too...

You should try to source a S50.

Exterior changes are only half the story. The E60 5-Series and E60 M5 had a few interior changes as well when they went LCI, which I loved. The interior changes on the E60 M5 were also a little different than the 5 series. I wonder what the interior changes on the LCI F10 M5 are going to look like? I wonder if they are going to make the LCI F10 M5 that much better? They made a world of difference to me in the E60 M5.

Forget the differences. LCI will only have new LED headlights, probably new digital tacho, touch-pad iDrive and probably, but don't count on it, HP bump. That would be it.

I hope not. I prefer the fuller look of the current M5 wheel.

I really would not hold my breath for a hp bump.

Not that I need more than 560 hp, but this would be the only thing that pissed me off. Having been given fair warning and time to back out, I found all the presumed LCI changes to be minor and went ahead with the '13.

I can understand the LCI on the standard 5 series. After all it's been since late 2010... But the M5? Too soon. For those who have one (I envy you), its just not right.

If you're not a brandwhore and don't mind doing cross-brand swaps, I'd go with a JZ motor. I've driven LS powered E30s and 240s and they make power but are pretty boring to drive on a track because it's all midrange power. Great for daily driving, though.

Not in the slightest. JZ might get awfully expensive though, I know the LSXs are much more common. I'll have to look into it for sure!

Thank you, I haven't driven an S65 powered car since I lost mine in October. I cannot wait to be at 8,400 RPM again!

Here you go!

True, the LS can be had for cheap if you get pretty lucky but I've seen a few friends buy those motors for their 240s on a "sweet deal" and there's a rod knock or something. Just be careful. If you're going the safe route and sourcing the engine from someone legit, the price could be about the same. It's all about personal preference - like I happen to love an external wastegate dump at 8K while others despise it.

LCI and facelift question

Isn't it weird that the M5 is getting a facelift? I thought the M cars were mostly immune to that kind of tinkering.

What are you talking about? Been going on for previous generations.
Let's see for U.S Models as long as i can remember

2000M5 - 1st Year
2001+M5 aka LCI - Angel Eye, widescreen NAV, smaller steering wheel, Jewel tail lights, etc

2006M5 - 1st Year
2008+M5 aka LCI - Upgraded interface/buttons for Active Seats, Heated Seat, Climate control, etc. Upgraded tail lights & headlights, I-drive knob upgrade, door and other interior upgrade, etc.

In fact, very subtle changes so far for 2013 MY - I think so far headlights, tail lights, smaller steering wheels like M6?, Upgraded I-Drive. I think there will be some changes in interior and maybe even the dash changes color based on drive modes? I think i saw BMW gave sneak peek at such an option last year.
