Windshield "clear bra"
Anyone have any luck with a windshield, clear bra protector. Only 10 months into my car and I already have a lot of chips. Thought I would try and find a clear bra type product that protects windshield and can be replaced every 12-18 months or so.

Not a bad idea but not sure what the wipers would do to it over time. I hear you on the rock chips... I had my windshield replaced a few months back because of it.

BMW windshields are definitely on the softer side. There's a product called Clearplex film that is a windshield protector. I haven't done much research on it. I'm just letting the chips accumulate at this point.

Interesting. I've never had a chip on a BMW windshield. Guess we don't have too much gravel.

I did it on my 550 x drive with mixed results. I got tons of pitting and two chips in 12 months of ownership so I tried it. It is def better than the pitting I was getting but I can tell it is there from the outside. No issues with wipers. I don't know which product they used other than they said 3m

I have had Clearplex on three vehicles and frankly am not too impressed. Yes it prevents stone 'chips' but it has to be incredibly well installed or you can get frequent imperfections; hence finding the right installer (as always) is very important. Might be worth it having it replaced every year as the cost is quite reasonable.
I also had the Diamond Fusion on one vehicle installed by Premier and it was a fantastic product, clearly better than the Clearplex, however I'm not sure if they're still selling/installing it. It would be my recommendation if you can find it. Bish |
