800bhp requirement recomendations? Meth or Turbo
Hi All,
Has anyone on here had much experience with +800bhp options on F10 M5. What's the best way to go out about this? I've heard mixed reviews, upgraded Turbos and meth? I'm currently running a 720 map with Eisenmann sound pipe. I have been advised to stay away from Meth as a last resort. But then others I have read that its the best way to hit these kind of figures with out major engine work...I'm genuinely interested it what other M5 owners have done to reach 800 and above. Any feedback or member example experiences would be great. Thanks Simon Last edited by Quepps; 07-10-2017 at 05:28 AM.. |

Thanks.
I've been quoted 4K for turbos but have someone else in my ear saying Meth all day long. But then I want it done properly and as safe as possible. I'm sure someone on the forum must be able to guide me. Hopefully someone responds. |

Do both, turbos should be more effiecent and reduce EGT and IAT's.
Use water/meth injection to support fueling, keep IAT's and knock in check and clean the engine internal. Its a good safety net if manage and set up correctly with something like a JB4. |

you can probably do 800bhp on stock turbu but it will be with a very aggressive map.
You are better off getting Pure stage 2 turbos instead

Thanks for all all your comments, appreciated.
My local tuner have advised to remove stock turbos and upgrade internals? 4K for total works. They said I should archive 800bhp with this upgrade. I see others have removed and replaced entirely with Pure 1&2 turbos. Has anyone ever just had the internals tuned? |

Then turbos, meth all bolts on plus JB4/BCM stacked with a flash.
Note that once you are at 800whp motor life is short. Pretty much everyone who ever ran close to 800whp has blown their engine. Very little room for error so unless you can tune your own car don't do it! |

650-675 is safe assuming proper fuel is used. Catastrophic events can occur even at these levels but should be fine on a well maintained and well running setup. Keep in mind 675whp is between 750-775hp at the crank. Nothing to sniff at!

You can get 700 crank hp with nothing but a tune. The higher power you go the more cooling issues there are going to be. I personally don't recommend going above 700 crank hp without upgrading the cooling and the rest of the drive train and doing all of that properly is going to get costly.

Many thanks for all you help. With much thought with everyone's help I'm going to stay clear of Meth and turbo. Seems like too much worry for me....
I haven't fitted downpipes as I don't want the car being to loud. Are these a big improvement? Is it a good option to Keep rest of the exhuast system stock and just fit DP's? How much power will the catless DP's give me? I see some people are just removing the stock DP's internals? Drilling them out. Will I need my Ecu tuned again? Many thanks for any help. |

In my opinion, 650/650 is enough for this platform. You go beyond that and it's either good night sweet engine or it's going to cost you an arm and a leg to keep it reliable (supporting mods for a small market car--AKA the M tax).
In a world of finite resources, I would rather spend the 40k on a p-car than mod the M5 to kingdom come. In a perfect world where I dont have to choose, then obviously I would opt for a monster sedan and a p-car or Ferrari. Congrats to those members who can afford both!! |

Ecu tune and downpipes get you to around 700-720 bhp crank, exhaust doesn’t add much more maybe 10-15bhp
The next step for bang for buck is the meth and jb4, although I recommend getting a gearbox remap and upgraded clutch as you clutch WILL slip. All this then would be remapped in a stage 3 map and your looking at around 780-800 crank HP. But of course this will put pressure on the stock turbos and drivetrain, so your call. Next stage is where is gets very expensive, you need new turbos, ( pure turbos are about £4k) new cooling system, and new drivetrain otherwise it will break. Next most would recommend having the engine rebuilt. If you do this your get 1000 bhp, but it will cost you about £12 grand, maybe more on top of the meth stage. So all in all your looking at over £15k , maybe even £20k to get your car to 1000 bhp Most people, myself included have downpipes and a custom tune, and on 99 fuel I get 720+ bhp. I concidered meth and jb4 which is only about £1000 quid but the racing clutch was £3000k so was put off, plus reliability would severly go down. Some opt just to do meth and have a slipping clutch as a cheap way of getting more power but it’s a very risky game. On my 40k car I decided against it. So left in as pretty much all m5 owners do on the map and downpipes. |
