Shopping m5. 6mt or DCT

I am pretty sure i know the answers most will say. What I want to know is not subjective.
1. How much faster is the DCT vs 6mt in the quarter
2. Any differences in the cars besides the trans? On the e60 for example it didn't have an LSD.
3. Mpg difference
4. Whats the HP capacity of the 6mt? The dct needs stronger clutches after fbo typically.

Thx

Dct is always faster than manual and you will burn a ton more gas with manual. But it's so worth it. I got bored with my Porsche because it was automatic.

Not sure about any other differences though.

I was in a similar predicament, 6MT or DCT. I've always been a manual transmission guy as there is more driver engagement.

I think you have to drive both and then decide. I drove a 6MT M5 twice, and it was cool to row through the gears, the rev matching is a nice feature, and when pushed is a lot fun.

That being said, when I drove it the 2nd time with the mindset of "can I live with it long term? My perspective changed some. It is a heavy car and and compared to the DCT It felt heavier and I noticed some turbo lag where I couldn't in the DCT. Ultimately I chose the DCT as I will sit in traffic from time to time. Would be nice to own both. There are times when I wish I went manual, but I'm sure if I did there would be times when I wish I went DCT

1. Dct is faster, but I'm not sure how much faster. I know it's not much.

2. No idea, but I think they are the same except no LC for the 6 speed, I think.

3. The dct gets better gas mileage.

4. I think I've read either 800 or 1k.

Sorry, I don't have all the answers, just guesses.

Again, if I had a choice, 6 speed all the way. It's not even close for me. I used to live in NY and commute, in lots of traffic, and still preferred manual. Ironically, now with the dct, I find it more annoying to shift now than I ever have on any of my manual cars. I have no idea why, it should be "easier" and less troublesome...

Hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

Thx guys. I already have a 6mt 335i e93 with over 700 rwhp so I have top down and manual covered. The f10 is gonna be a work car. Between mpg, faster, it just makes sense. If i get the manual itch I can always grab the 335i.

Sounds like you have both covered. 700hp 335? That sounds like fun.

SST is better than Dodson from what I've read and heard, correct? Not that I'm upgrading them just yet.

Can't confirm who is better, but SSP is in the States and the support seems to be quite good.

If comparing dct vs manual stock for stock
Manual can outrun a dct aka driver mod

Gearing will edge dct

If you are up in power.
800hp manual vs 800dct w/clutches

Dct wins, but now dct will win
Now for high hp cars manual needs extra 100whp to compensate on shifting as you are loosing power every shift and has to build boost against vs dct that never looses power.

I believe the MT cars are rated @ higher Mpg over the DCT cars! All I know is that I've personally seen a solid 24.2 (@ abt 75-77mph) on a long road trip from VA to FL in my '13 MT M5.

I cannot even reach 20 mpg on mine. Always 19.4, and I use econo mode.
But I am not complaining. Would never have had it any other way.

My last trip I was averaging 12.2 mpg. The one before that 13 or so, and one prior to that in the 11s. I haven't been driving crazy either.
