I also think it would require an entirely new seat, but BMW NA is in a better position to determine that than are we.

I'm interested in the retrofit, not compensation, this car should have adjustable side bolsters, plain and simple. I will be sending my email AND letter tomorrow morning.

Late jumping on this thread. During ED pickup and driving, I was wondering how to adjust the bolsters. I took manual with me and read on the plane home and saw the little round buttons just like my E60. I figured I was just an idiot and overlooked the buttons.

The manual does clearly say that it covers multiple variants/options so you might not have all that is listed, but I was certainly expecting 20-way seats with the main difference from the E60 seats being that I knew the bolsters would not be "active."

This is kind of an annoying and feels like bait-and-switch, even if accidental on their part.

I picked up 2013 F10 M5 ED 9/7 and no backrest adjust on my car. I agree we need to pursue for correction and not just complaint. What if a passenger side airbag had been excluded (un) intentionally?

Maybe Jason can weigh in and suggest a route of correction.

i will also write a letter to BMW NA in NJ.

It is my understanding that the reason the F10 sedans do not have the adjustable bolsters is due to crash testing and the seat / side airbag arrangement. If this is the case, I think you guys are hosed, honestly.

I wish you luck in your quest, but there are enough disclaimers on literature that say "may not reflect final configuration" or some such nonsense that there may be legal loopholes out of any false advertising / misleading product / bait & switch claims. I'll be watching, though.

Are these the buttons everyone is missing or did I misunderstand the topic?

I don't understand this. Wouldn't that affect European models too? It seems Europe has this feature and US does not.

Unless there is something in particular in US Testing procedure which poses an issue. Of course that begs the question of how come Lexus has these in the GS350 also launched this year.

Europe has different crash standards, of course. I'm not sure exactly the logic, as you would think it would be cheaper to engineer the bolsters so they could pass crash requirements in the US, but I'm not sure.

What I do know is that the 7 and 5GT both still have bolsters, but the F10 never has. Including the M5. It can't simply be decontenting, cost cutting or even a mistake. There has to be a reason behind it. Obviously it is not simply that adjustable side bolsters cannot be offered. In addition to two other closely related cars in BMW's lineup offering them, numerous other cars do (the Lexus you mentioned, many Porsches, etc.). It's something about the F10 specifically, and in the US, that doesn't work.

yes, the two round buttons are missing and what make a 20 way seat into an 18 way one.

We're all guessing, but I think it is simple de-contenting on the F10. The E60 had the adjustable side bolsters, as does the 5GT, 6 and 7 - all of which are structurally similar to the 5. I just don't believe that there is some structural reason that the North American (remember, they're not on Canadian models either) F10 can't have them.

If that is indeed the case, then BMWNA would be forthcoming with a clear answer shortly. However, IMO, I suspect otherwise

Just to note, my '08 550i had them as did my '09 Z4, my '11 X5, and now my '12 335is. If I see any BMW NA reps at O'fest this week, i'll be sure to ask why not the M5.

New to the board. Was in the first group of ED's for new M5. I was told by the guy that did my delivery, the the active side bolsters (which are on my e60 M5) aren't an a available option for the U.S... Disappointing, as it's a favorite feature of many of the people that ride in my car.

I can adjust my side bolsters, either.

apparently the lumbar support, and high beam assistant is only available on the Performance Edition cars. Apparently 116k is not enough to have these options.

The M5 M Performance Edition includes a claimed £22,075 of extra equipment as standard, from its latest 560bhp TwinPower Turbo V8 engine with race-bred chassis technology and Active M differential and electronic damping control to 20in M Double-spoke matt black alloy wheels, Dark Chrome exhaust, side gills and kidney surround, M Sport multi-function seats with lumbar support, powered bootlid operation, sun protection glass, split-folding rear seats, comfort access and soft-close doors, reversing assist camera, High Beam Assistant technology, internet connectivity, BMW Professional 12-speaker audio system, telephone USB audio interface, and a speed limit display system.

Lumbar (lower back) support actually is included with the US cars. That's the 4 way rocker button in singularity's post above. What's missing are the 2 buttons to the right of lumbar that manage seat width.
