so M3/4 faster than M5/6?

so it seems to me that M3/4 is faster than M5/6 both in track/drag?

Kinda disappointing... (I just ordered M5 )

edit.

I know M5/6 is not for drag/track but kinda disappointing that only thing that our car is better compared to M3/4 is... space.. I hope I am wrong

Well it's a more luxurious car. I like the M5.

The M3 interior looked sort of cheap. However my standards are M5, Porsche, and the new AMG S63 (quality in that order).

So to be fair the M3 is a nice car, but the M5 is nicer.

I'm impressed with the M3 specs though.

Well, lets not forget one of the members tested the M5 at 0-60 in 3.67 seconds, and the best for the M5 1/4 I saw was around 11.5 / 11.6

So that M3/M4 still gotta prove themselves.

As for the track, we all knew a smaller lighter car such as the m3/m4 will be a better track car. No brainier here.

First let's see test results - we've all said it and we all know it. 0 - 100 km/h is not a practical measure of quality in real world situations. I rather wait and see the 100 - 200 km/h results.

There is also a certain level of pride and pleasure I get from now owning an entry level (I know M isn't entry but 3/4 series basically is). It's a bit like playing in the big leagues compared to minor league. I grew up in an area polluted with BMWs and everyone knew someone in highschool/college with an M3 - but we still always looked up to the M5.

I still love my M5. It gets much more respect than my E93 did and I believe it will still get more respect than the new F80/82

So If BMW claims a 4.3 0-60 time from the M5 and the real world 0-60 is closer to 3.7. What can we expect for a real world 0-60 time from the M4/M3 with a claimed 0-60 of 4.1?

I think M3/4 might have edge on the higher speed due to it's weight

They've claimed 4.1 0-60 for the M4 with the DCT.

I have no doubt in my mind that with the same driver or equally skilled drivers that the M5/M6 will be faster than the M3/M4 in a drag race from a dig and from a roll. You gotta remember that the M3/M4 will still have as much trouble with traction with 405 lbs/ft of torque and RWD. In a dig race, once the M5/M6 get traction it's game over for the M3/M4. In a rolling race, it won't even be fair . The M5/M6 will be up almost 200hp on the M3/M4.

On the track, like someone already said, it will be a no brainer. The M3/M4 will be the faster car not even a doubt in my mind. That 1,000lbs weight difference will feel SO good on the track.

I think it the m3 looks better than the m5 exterior wise. I wish the m5 had seats like the m3. The interior is better in the m5 thou

I hope the next M5 targets on weight reducing rather than adding too much unusable power. Very nicely done, F80 M3.

I'm really liking the looks and initial #'s of the M3/M4. But i have to admit, i love the extra space and luxuriousness of my M5. Never a shortage of power and as a daily driver, it does everything for me. I could never trade it for a 3-series.

I feel completely content admiring the M3/M4 from the showroom floor and on the road as they drive by. I actually look forward to seeing the first few on the road. Much like when the 1M first came out.

The problem with getting an M3 is that to 99% of people it looks like a 3 series and a 3 series is a secretary's car.

For me m5 is no brainer choice.

They should have put a CFRP roof and trunk on the M5. I'm still happier to have an M5/M6 over M3/M4. So what if they can go 0-60 faster by a tenth or so. It's a smaller and lighter car, thus it should be faster and more nimble. Simple physics. The M5/M6 has > luxury cred than the M3/M4 and it really depends on your priority.

If your biggest priority in a car is what other people think of it, I can see why this would matter a lot.

I dont think he is saying it's his biggest priority.

No pun intended to any older men who drives M3's, but people (your clients, employees, boss, etc.) look at you differently depending on the car you drive. Its sad but true. At least people do in LA.

Hate to say it from a psychological stand point people purchase on what they like, and also social acceptance. Reality is reality ........not saying it's right or wrong but let's all buy a civic and make it go fast! I would never toss my M5 or 991S for a M3 no matter how fast it was. BMW has to be very careful, and stop placing M badges on every car it has because it diluting the badge. When I had a 2001 M3 there was big brother M5, and that's it. Now you have M packages, and all kinds of crap these days. I do gather what Stealth is saying, but not as harsh(:

When is the LCI/Comp Package coming out? Lesson learnt from the M5. Those aren't far away, so be warned...

Agree, if I pulled up in the executive lot in a M3 there would be comments the same if I pulled up in a mini van. If I was at GA Tech it would be cool hot dude on campus. No knock on the M3 I have love for the car, but I have put grown the car hence 991.
