Sorry i'm compelled to correct an important fact. Most gun homicides occur in inner cities where they have the strictest gun laws. For instance, I'm allowed to carry anywhere in NY state, but not the 5 boroughs. That means some moron bureaucrat thought I am responsible enough to carry a gun anywhere in the state, but NOT in the place where there is the most crime. Makes no sense. The difference with England and Japan is that there citizens never had much guns in circulation opposed to our country. So if you disarm people by more laws it will not make a difference. I don't know if you heard but criminals typically don't follow the law. Switzerland has the lowest crime rate because there militia is all armed with assault rifles in their homes. Australia tried to ban guns and crime increased drastically. All banning more guns here for law abiding citizens does is make a safer work environment for criminals. Happy holidays.

I hear you bro not debating the fact as I said I have two myself. I live in GA, and NY with GA being very pro guns. The facts are we have a problem in this country is all I'm saying. We need to fix the inner city, but remember the last two events didn't happen in the inner city that's why you see those events on the news. By the way how's your M5 driving. Stop the politics there because it will never end trust me(:

Guys lets keep the conversation to cars so we can all stay friends. I think most of us will be on this board for at least 1-3 years.
BTW here is what I keep in my left glovebox: Spare house keys in a small combination lock box 2 pairs of Sunglasses - one Maui Jim polarized for wearing outside of car at destination and one Serengetti non polarized for driving.

I'm also glad I live in a country were you wouldn't even consider carrying a gun in your car! And, I have often heard the Swiss argument being used. I know several people from Switzerland and from what I know they have NEVER used the arms argument as any reason for a low crime rate. Were I live we also have a similar system with National Guard reserves having automatic guns in their homes. The last thought 99% of these guys would have if they hear someone entering their house would be to get their service weapon (or any other weapon). I think it's just cultural differences and history. What works in many european countries might not work in the US (or vice versa). I believe that many of our european arguments and points of view on this are valid in europe, but possibly not in the US. I appreciate that you have a big discussion on guns after the laste events, but we europeans should also understand that US society and culture are very different than ours on this. |

I have Bolle polarized sunglasses and I can't see the HUD at all with the glasses on. They have plastic lenses. I guess I should invest in some real glass lenses.

One way to test if a lens is polarized is to place one lens on top of the other and rotate one lens. At some point it should all black out. If not then one of the lenses is not truly polarized Best to get non-polarized for driving and polarized for sports and walking around. |

This!
I'm a bit surprised that the angle is different between sunglasses. Polarization kills all light in a given plane (thus the black out when lenses are at 90 degrees) and I'd think you always want the reflection and direct (overhead) sunlight removed. Go figure. I wish I'd thought of this before buying my latest prescription shades... It's winter now and between the car being parked and the sun being up only while I'm at work - I hadn't noticed the lack of HUD. |

Both the HUD and your polarized lenses take advantage of Brewster's Angle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brewster's_angle). In the HUD it is to reflect the image onto the windscreen aligned with your head. In the sunglasses, its to cut glare. However, not all sunglasses have the same alignment of their polarization field... Maui Jims and Oakleys have very, very precise polarization that will be evident when aligned with the HUD. Both polarizations can cancel each other out and make the HUD seem to disappear.
We have the same problem wearing polarized lenses in combat aircraft -- displays/HUDs can seem to blank out, and windscreens can "rainbow" as they are polarized themselves.
