steering wheel options for 2013 M5

What is the best way to update my big ass steering wheel to the newer 2014+ M5 steering wheel? Can I just buy the 2014 version and install it?

Someone mentioned he thought people were doing the m6 steering wheel? Anyone know why they would use the M6 one instead?

Can someone help me figure out what steering wheel I should buy?

Thanks!

This is something I too am extremely interested in.

I have found this post to be extremely helpful:

http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthr...Steering+wheel

I also have a question as there is no info on the heated steering wheel option. Does anyone know if there is a module or another part for this option? I would absolutely like to retain this feature.

Thanks so much.

I purchased the whole wheel including the vibration and steering module, but no airbag, for around $700 shipped from a person on bimmerfest forums. Username was MOK. It was an M6 steering wheel.

Got the airbag from ReevesBMW here on this forum.

Except you have to pay for both the steering wheel and the airbag.. Just seems like alot of extra cost

How much did they charge for the airbag?

Same wiring and easy to install I assume? Do you have the heated steering wheel option and did this function still work?

Why is everyone using the M6 wheel over the 2014+ M5 wheel that looks just like the M6 wheel?

I like the performance steering wheels and would get one if they were LEATHER. I have a fuzzy one on my M3 and I hate it. I wipe it down weekly and it looks like shit. So no go on that for me unless they start making them in leather.

It was more widely available at the time, and cheap ($700ish for the wheel and all modules).

Do you know if the 2014 m5 wheel is plug and play?

I might be the one with this opinion but I believe the functionality of the 2013 wheel is much better. My f15 x5 has the msport steering wheel and I dont like how the buttons are laid out.

Ok. Can you help me understand what all I need to do this? I assume I will need the 2014+ M5 steering wheel, a matching airbag and some sort of modules?

I would suggest you get the fully assembled wheel which has all the parts (wheel, buttons, trim, heated steering wheel module, vibration module).

Otherwise you need all those plus the airbag. You can look up part numbers on realoem.com

Thank you. Does it matter if I have vibration or not currently?

I will be doing the retrofit sometime in the next week or two. I will take pictures of all the components needed.

That's awesome. Thank you very much. Are you using the 2014 F10 M5 steering wheel or the 2013+ M6 wheel? I think they are identical?
